Before you start reading you should know that getting up from my bed this morning I was complete noob in any BIOS mods. And Actually I am still the same I guess.
EDITED!!! Check the end of post!
DOUBLE EDITED! I EXTRACTED ROM FILES + FLASHER!
EDIT: ALMOST SOLVED! I DID CHANGED ROM FILE BUT WHAT NOW? IT SAYS THAT I ALREADY HAVE SUCH VERSION OF BIOS! HOW TO MANUALLY UPDATE IT???
EDIT: Just take that Sony's bios packager, unzip it using 7ZIP. You will need to mod 1 file where you will write that all you need is to flash only 2MB bios image. Mod that bios image, save it and flash.
BUT you should pray that you modded BIOS right and didn't change some options which shouldn't be changed. For example don't try to disable HyperThreading Technology. Because only when I did this I bricked laptop
Hi guys.
My information:
I live in country... no, wait.... I must give you another info, correct?
Notebook: Sony VAIO F series
Model: VPCF126FM
BIOS: AMI (American Megatrends Inc.)
BIOS version: 1.28.1119
BIOS number: R1120Y6
BIOS link: http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-dow...=VPCF126FM&upd_id=6241&os_group_id=6
BIOS direct link: http://s02.download.sony.com/US/pc/AIBSY...0-1040.EXE
Problem: People say it doesn't support I7 extreme CPUs (I7-920XM and I7-940XM).
1 Guy from Japan I guess tried it with I7-940XM and it didn't work.
Another guy with I7-920XM tried and it didn't work - at least I heard this. But I don't know if it was OEM CPU or ES.
But Here is what I know. That some Australian shop made it work fine with I7-920XM and sells it. https://www.electronicbazaar.com.au/note...x1080.html
I sent questions but none was answered by them.
I am a member of 1 famous tech forum but no one in owner's lounge knows how to make it work with these CPUs.
Please, can anyone check this and unlock these CPUs?! Please! It must be possible somehow.
EDIT/ This is what I found. It is not useful, but just in case
In temp folder after I clicked install BIOS update and then canceled it I found 1 deleted file. There are a lot temp files but this one I could read.
Here what was written there:
Then I googled this EP0000235840.exe file and found download link here http://www.sony.co.nz/support/download/430364
Direct link here: http://download.sony-asia.com.edgesuite....235840.exe
As I see it is real BIOS file! Because that first from US site contains a lot (too much) of things.
Also I found that it is easy to check CPU support. I found it here http://www.rom.by/forum/AMI_BIOS_CPU_mic...ent-285555
But the main is
Also I found that there are amibcd 7.01.01 and amibcd 7.06 already. Perhaps they will work better? But for some reason files I downloaded refuse to open. Error message says to use proper x86 bit system.
I REALLY WANT MY LAPTOP SUPPORT THESE CPUs! Please help me!
DOUBLE EDIT!
Look what I did!
But AMIBCP346 doesn't open it
EDIT AGAIN
I finally managed to edit my BIOS. Now I can change values! Look at the picture!
Tell me guys is this value only I need to change to get I7-920XM to work?
P.S. It was very funny. I asked a question this afternoon and myself unswered on it at night.
EDIT: No, it won't help I guess. Also CPU microcodes adding will not help if you can't even boot with new CPU. Read my next post.
