[Request] Alienware X51 R2 BIOS Unlock
#1
It would be great to be able to overclock this computer and be able to do more powerful stuff with an unlocked bios.
This is a link to the most recent bios

Hello everyone!
I have an Alienware X51 R2. And I want to overclock my RAM, but there are no such options in BIOS.
PC has i7 4790, H87 chipset and BIOS with Alienware skin.
So I ask for help. Please, help me unlock maximum available options.
What i did:
1) unlock some options in AMIBCP, the only one more option of all is shown now
2) replaced setup module with patched one, which should enable hidden pages from formset table, but it doesn't. Nothing changed. So i replaced the setup module with original one and in MODA12REV1 it is unchanged.
There are all changes.
Thanks in advance.
Update: added modded (MODA12REV1_MOD2.BIN) version which doesn't work. The BIOS menu is empty.

I did some researches.
There are two sets of menus in setup. The first ones are AMI standart and second ones are Alienware's, they are shown in BIOS setup.

Form Sets
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Offset: Title:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
0x42830 Main (0x6)
0x528E2 Advanced (0x1C)
0x5B18C Chipset (0x1E)
0x6629A Boot (0x20)
0x66B28 Security (0x3B)
0x671D8 Save & Exit (0x4F)
0x6745F Main (0x6)
0x6778D Advanced (0xBB)
0x6829A Security (0xB0)
0x685F7 Boot (0x20)
0x6F1A8 Exit (0xC4)

As I write in previous post I found boolean sequence 00 00 00 00 00 00 01 01 01 01 01 and changed it to 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01. And it for some reason didn't work - no additional tabs are shown now. I also unlocked some options in AMIBCP from the Alienware tabs and it is worked for me.
So now I absolutely don't know how to unlock at least Chipset tab. May be there are limit for tabs shown in BIOS or they are controlled by other module (maybe SimpleClickBIOSUI?)?
Some other modding i needed (updated modules and microcode) I did with no problems and system is working now.
So I hope there are people with more experience which can help me.

What I did with my alienware x51 R1 bios is that I switched the group of 00 to 01 and the group of 01 to 00 and that gave me the AMI menu Smile

Hello!

I see you were able to enable the AMI menu on your R1. I was just curious how you flashed the BIOS? I have an R2 and can follow the guides to extract current BIOS, change "00 00 00 00 00 00 01 01 01 01 01" to "01 01 01 01 01 01 00 00 00 00 00", and save it, but I can't find anything about flashing a modified BIOS on an Alienware X51 :/

Any help would be much appreciated, and thanks (sorry) in advance!

Use Intel FTK.
https://youtu.be/pxeJI5WYdJU
There is video vith demonstration (it is on russian, but you can turn on subs). And just google.
P.S. On R2 editing these changes doesn't give you access to AMI tabs, i tried it.

Hi,

I am requesting help in creating an unlocked bios for Alienware X51 R2 (AMI Aptio IV Bios) on non-K Haswell. DIY is not working for me....

I have seen no successful mods posted for the X51 R2 on any forum.  Following multiple modding guides does not work (see below for details on my failures).

One reported successful mod for X51 R1 on this forum but process is not detailed on how they solved it. Was not able to reverse engineer their solution.

Thanks in advance for any help - I am trying to optimize this entry level gaming rig for my middle school kids and am teaching them about PC HW and overclocking GPU, DRAM and CPU along the way.

Relevant files to expedite modding -- located on my Google Drive
  • Most recent Dell Bios (from Dell site)
  • Extracted Clean Bios from Oct 12 (no modifications)
  • Setup Bin (search for 00 00 00 00 00 00 01 01 01 01 01  in Hex editor)
  • Setup Bin INF file with menus / Form Sets
  • Extracted A12 Bios & modified with many settings AMIBCP/User and Setup changed via UEFITool/HxD/UEFITool to turn on all menu options reversed (01 01 01 01 01 00 00 00 00 00 00)  -   This ROM works but still has original settings.

Goal:
1. Get access to standard AMI menus rather than locked/limited Alienware menus.
2. I would settle for just being able to overclock my Corsair Platinum 1866MHz RAM (10, 11, 10, 30 settings) but would also like to overclock CPU.  (I bought this as a scratch & dent for a back up work computer in 2014 on sale and now have upgraded graphics, SSD and RAM so it’s a kids gaming & streaming box.  Didn’t know about K processors back then..)

I am at least 25+ hours into attempting to overclock my Alienware Haswell 4770 (non K). I have added Corsair 1866MHz DDR3 but it is running at default memory settings and I have not been able to overclock the CPU.  Dell has locked the default AMI bios and I have been unsuccessful in getting the non Dell Bios menu settings unlocked or to individually set the bios settings and reflash via AMI 4.5 & AWUWIN tools, UEFI tool, MMtool, HeX editor.

Steps I have taken and then reflashed bios (at least 10 times…; changing only one part at a time)
  1. Copied current bios.
  2. Modified many settings from Default to User (e.g., under Main section, under Advanced, etc.)
  3. Extracted Setup bin and replaced menu enable/disable strings and then reinserted into bios.
    1. Tried numerous variations of all 01/enable, only first six of 11 UI options as reported worked on X51 R1 bios.
    2. Other users on this forum have reported same problem.
  4. Modified Specific Bios Settings in AMI Mod tool (e.g., enable many features, set memory at 1866 MHz; set custom memory profile; enabled XMP setting).

The most success I have had is to get a different bios load screen and a different bios UI but it has no info in the UI/no options to change and still loads all default bios settings.

Guides I have followed:
  1. Dr. Pain request #1:  http://www.win-raid.com/t2500f16-Alienwa...NLOCK.html
  2. Dr. Pain request #2 on Bios Mod: https://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-R...IOS-Unlock

  4. Bios-mods guide: https://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-G...EFI-Aptio4

CPU Goal:
1. Basic overclocking is all I want on CPU.   I can live without any overclocking if I get RAM better.
Quote from a overclocking benchmark site:  "Reaching 4.2GHz should not be a problem for most people. Some current chips do take 1.2v to reach it these settings and my BIOS settings below is only a guide to what you may have to apply in order to reach the same as me."

Hello, im new here. I need a bios unlock for my alienware x51 r2. It is an AMI bios and all I know about it is that it is version A12. I cannot see the hidden menus in it that I believe have overclocking and such. If anyone can help, please do.
