HP Proliant Microserver AMI BIOS MOD ** FLASH TUTORIAL **
#1
Hi,

After some had Problems during flashing the BIOS, I decided to make a Quick (short) Tutorial. Please correct me if I explain wrong.

This Tutorial is a short Version of HP ProLiant N40L MicroServer Build and BIOS Modification Revisited

  1. Check if you have the Bios ID 041 during booting with the F10 key - Figure 1
  2. Download the File Systems ROMPaq Firmware Upgrade for HP ProLiant MicroServer (Alternate: Diehard’s System Rompaq Firmware)
  3. The downloaded File from HP is called SP54344.exe and from DieHard SP52016.exe. Both should do the same as told by Joe Miner
  4. Install the File SP54344.exe. You will find it at "C:\SWSetup\SP54344"
  5. Go to this Folder and open the Folder "USB Key"(C:\SWSetup\SP54344\USB Key).
  6. Start the File HPQUSB.exe and follow the Wizard (dont forget to plug in your USB Stick)
  7. Download the File o41072911mod.rar directly and extract. Than rename it to o41072911.rom The first letter is an "Oh" NOT ZERO!
  8. Browse your USB and replace the file o41072911.rom. The Filesize must be 2.048 KB [2,00 MB (2.097.152 Bytes)]
  9. Switch OFF your Microserver NL40
  10. Put out the HDD
  11. Plug-In the USB
  12. Switch ON your Microserver NL40
  13. DO NOT TOUCH NOW ANYTHING! THE WHOLE PROCEDURE IS AUTOMATICALLY. WAIT UNTIL YOU SEE THE C:\> PROMPT ! IT TAKES AROUND 50-60 SECONDS TILL IS FINISHED
  14. Now you can Power Down and Power On again
  15. Press F10 during BIOS is loading to access again the BIOS Screen
  16. You will see the Tab PCIPnP and Chipset. This means your Bios is modified.
  17. Thats it. Now you can configure your Bios
ATTENTION: I guess people who have Black Screen Problems after flashing the Boot is that those understand to rename the RAR File. This is wrong! You HAVE TO unrar or unzip the o41072911mod.rar File! Check the unzipped File Size to equal 2.048 KB [2,00 MB (2.097.152 Bytes)] The Tutorial below did not helped me and I it send back. Maybe it can help some others.

Black Screen Tutorial - HP Support
  1. Power off your MicroServer NL40 and wait for 5 Minutes
  2. Go to "C:\SWSetup\SP54344\USB Key"
  3. Plug-In your USB
  4. Start the File HPQUSB.exe and follow the Wizard.
  5. Unplug your USB from Computer and Plug-In to your MicroServer NL40
  6. Power On and wait for 5-10 Minutes. For a period of time, there will be no video displayed on the screen. This is expected behavior
  7. Power the server off and unplug the USB drive
  8. Power the server on again. The system will boot and the System BIOS will be re-flashed successfully.
Note: I am not responsible for this Tutorial or any Errors. This is just a shorted Version of Joe Miners (http://homeservershow.com/hp-proliant-n4...sited.html) Tutorial.

Will this work on both the N36L and N40L Hp Microservers? I am getting an error every 4-7 months on the CDROM SATA port. I am using it for an external hard disk. Every once in a long while, I will get an error about writing a block that errored out. After that I can only access the port if I reboot. I am hoping by switching it to AHCI, it will remedy the situation.

Thank you!

Thank you!

I did exactly like you described in post no 1 but whenever i exit the bios and reenter it i see that none of the changes i did were saved. Even though i click on f10 and save the changes i did.
So i am not able to use the ODD SATA port for a 5th HDD.

what can i do?

the modded bios here is slightly different but works fine so it may put the correct model number in, not sure but worth a try. reflash the origional 041 first. all the files u need are in the download.
