[REQUEST] Acer Aspire E5-553(G) BIOS Unlock
#71
@dragondada

Ok, here you go: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4NHIBM...BfeDQ/view

You need to put the vars_mod_dragondada.txt file in the folder with the H2OUVE.exe file and execute the following command in an administrative command prompt in that folder:
H2OUVE.exe -sv vars_mod_dragondada.txt
H2OUVE will update the NVRAM area of the BIOS and after a reboot the new setting should be active.

Is everything there under the setup block in the vars file?

Applied, confirmed amd-v is now enabled! Fantastic, now I've got the laptop I thought acer sold me....thanks mclarke2355 and Dudu2002

I'm glad that it worked properly!

Yes, all the current settings are saved in the setup block of the vars file. It's the only block that we need to change.
The variable tells you at which position the setting is saved (e.g. SVM Support has the variable 0xEE, so its setting is located at position EE (Hexadecimal) in the setup block).
So, if you want to change something else, you just need to look up its variable in the EFI-table and then change the according value in the setup block of the vars file to the desired one.

hello, please help me unlocked bios for AMD V, I wiil really be appreciate.
i have same type of acer E5-553g-12C6
and here is my vars.

Hey all,

Long time weren't here.

Here is my vars file. I also have an olde zaba file, that was submitted to m for unlocking the bios (but i never got an spi prgrammer here in TH)

I would like to get everything what is possible....
advanced tab would be so great but would be happy already if i get virtualization.

i will look inside by myself, but would be nice to get help. can you check for the necessary mods inside?

thanks in adavance

Hello mclarke2355, first, thank you SO MUCH for this effort, it's incredible Acer just sold a bold thing without one of the most important features in a processor... but well, their loss...

I followed your instructions for creating a vars.txt file, and I'm uploading it here, in hopes you can help me enable AMD-V in my system (I only need that). I'm posting my whole specs in case you need my complete information:

Laptop: Aspire E5-553-1786
OS: Windows 10 64 Bit Home Build 1607
Bios Version: 1.13
16 Gigs RAM (15.5 available)
AMD A12 APU 9700P
Radeon R7 Graphics (512 MB)
Currently, AMD-V is disabled, task manager says so, and VirtualBox doesn't let me install 64bit OSes, VmWare Player cannot use AMD-V for faster operations.

I'm uploading my vars.txt for you to check it.
.txt   vars.txt (Size: 110.08 KB / Downloads: 13)

I have a little doubt tho, will this process change any other BIOS settings in the laptop? (specially messing with the hardware reserved memory, I want it like it is currently) Will this revert the fix this version of BIOS has regarding display banding? (ver 1.13 fixes a severe banding older revision was having, right now I have no issues) If I have any trouble with this, is there anything I can do to restore it to a previous state?

Sorry to pester you with this questions, but I wanna be sure before patching my system... it was an epic victory to force Acer to fix my problems with the display...

Thanks in advance for your ENORMOUS help.

See ya!! Big Grin

If you still need AMD-V enabled, follow the instructions in this post and upload the vars.txt file: https://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-R...#pid127706

Here mine for E5-553G https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B2qEv0...2JLQVlnUXM

@--seb--
Hi,
here's your modded vars-file with AMD-V enabled and SMM Code Lock disabled: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4NHIBM...RTU2c/view

Before you try flashrom, you should apply the modded vars-file first as the disabled SMM Code Lock is important.

You need to put the vars_mod_--seb--.txt file in the folder with the H2OUVE.exe file and execute the following command in an administrative command prompt in that folder:
H2OUVE.exe -sv vars_mod_--seb--.txt
H2OUVE will update the NVRAM area of the BIOS and after a reboot the new setting should be active.

I'll write more regarding flashrom later as I don't have much time right now.

@FerchogtX
Hi,
here's your modded vars-file with AMD-V enabled: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4NHIBM...A5SXM/view

You need to put the vars_mod_FerchogtX.txt file in the folder with the H2OUVE.exe file and execute the following command in an administrative command prompt in that folder:
H2OUVE.exe -sv vars_mod_FerchogtX.txt
H2OUVE will update the NVRAM area of the BIOS and after a reboot the new setting should be active.

This method will only enable AMD-V and not mess with any of the other settings of your BIOS.
In case you want to revert to default, you can go back to default with the following command:
H2OUVE.exe -sv vars.txt
Using the reset to defaults option in the BIOS would work, too.

@yoshh1999
Ok, here you go: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4NHIBM...JqVms/view

You need to put the vars_mod_yoshh1999.txt file in the folder with the H2OUVE.exe file and execute the following command in an administrative command prompt in that folder:
H2OUVE.exe -sv vars_mod_yoshh1999.txt
H2OUVE will update the NVRAM area of the BIOS and after a reboot the new setting should be active.
