Lenovo T510i - Add Microcodes for unsupported CPU
#1
Hello!

I have Lenovo T510i with Intel Core i3-330M CPU and discreet Nvidia NVS3100M GPU

T510i is based on Intel QM57 chipset same chipset as Lenovo W510 that has support of quad core CPUs

Also I have Core I7-720QM CPU and I tried to install it on my T510i. After I press power button with new cpu laptop spin fan for about 5 seconds as id do with Core i3 330M and then stop boot procedure

After that I'v checked W510 BIOS and compared it with T510 - W510 has microcodes for quad core cpus, T510i not

So is there any way to add quad core CPUs microcodes to T510 BIOS? I saw some post of CPU microcodes update for some board and it was successful for new CPU

OK what we got

There are few versions of T510 series exist

ThinkPad T510
This page gives an overview of all ThinkPad T510 related topics.
Machine Type
▪ 4313, 4314, 4349, 4384
Standard Features
▪ One of the following Intel Core i5 or Intel Core i7 processors:
▪ Intel® Core™ i5-520M (Dual-core, 2.4GHz, 3MB L2)
▪ Intel® Core™ i5-540M (Dual-core, 2.53GHz, 3MB L2)
▪ Intel® Core™ i5-560M (Dual-core, 2.66GHz, 3MB L2)
▪ Intel® Core™ i7-620M (Dual-core, 2.66GHz, 4MB L3)
▪ One of the following graphics adapters:
▪ Intel HD Graphics
▪ NVIDIA Quadro NVS 3100M with 512MB

And

Both T510 and T510i use dual core CPUs. Some models have discreet NVIDIA graphics with hard-switched off Intel HD like mine. Some use only Intel HD, and some use optimus combo of Nvidia and Intel HD

So only for dedicated models with hard-switched off Intel HD GPU may be possible to install quad core CPU

There are two versions of W510 model exist

Quad Core model
• BIOS ID 6Nxxxxxx-based computer
(Upper two alphanumeric characters of BIOS ID are 6N)

Dual Core model
• BIOS ID 6Lxxxxxx-based computer
(Upper two alphanumeric characters of BIOS ID are 6L)

Also I'v extracted microcodes for dual core CPUs and quad cores CPUs from intel site

CPUID codes for
Intel Core I7-720QM - CPUID 0106E5h (E5 06 01 00)

Intel Core i3-330M - CPUID (52 06 02)

In case of CPU and bios structure T510 and Dual core W510 almost identical

Quad core W510 a little bit different from first ones

********************************************************************************************************

So only help I need is to change-add new microcodes to file in BIOS module

********************************************************************************************************

All files was unpacked with Phoenix Tools

I've already experience of removing white-list for WLAN/WWAN cards in T510 bios. So repack some modules inside is not a big problem I think

In attachment I've packed all necessary bios files and microcode for quad core CPU

Thank's a lot for any help if possible to do this!

Hi,
By any chance are you able to find cupid microcode for 3rd gen i7 processors. I have a i7 3610qm I want to install on a t510 with a slice 2.1 whitelist removed bios 1.44 ver.

But the t510 is listed as rpga 989- which supports the g1 socket processors and g2 socket processors. The only thing is that it is a qm57 chipset. When I looked online I noticed some were saying that it does not even a quad core support and it must be added by microcode. So is there a chance it may be possible?
