Dell Poweredge 1800 CPU support
#1
Hello!

I would like to use 2 xeon 7140M processors (sl9ha) in the Poweredge 1800 server (Intel E7520 Chipset). Can it be solved by bios modification? This processor runs on the Poweredge 2800 or 2850 server.
bios link (my computer): http://www.dell.com/support/home/hu/hu/h...00/drivers
alternativ bios link (same chipset Intel E7520 memory controller): http://www.dell.com/support/home/hu/hu/h...00/drivers
or

thanks,
Joe

Hmm. Can you show a proof for PowerEdge 2800(or 2850) with Xeon 7140M?
I've found that PowerEdge 1850 & 2850 support dual-core Xeon 2.8 GHz (SL8MA). I think it's the best CPU for E7520 chipset.

Just all I know is that it supports dual-core processors.

Is there a big difference between sl8ma and 7140m?

Xeons with Tulsa core aren't supported by this chipset.

Thanks for the information!
Do you think Xeon 2.8 GHz (SL8MA) Dual-core processor is supported by the my Poweredge 1800?
Or maybe a better choice would be the xeon 3.8 GHz (SL8P2)?

Only real experiment can help to answer your question.
Native BIOS has microcode for SL8P2, but hasn't microcode for SL8MA.

Can microcode be added to bios?
I'm trying to get a 2 pieces sl8ma processor and try it. But it takes time.
