Enable Gateway NV52 Advanced Options?
#1
I realize you guys are overloaded with requests, and I hate to be an inconvenience, but somehow my onboard bluetooth antenna got disabled, and the only way to re-enable it is to go through the advanced bios menu*. However,  Gateway, in their infinite wisdom, decided to make this virtually impossible to access. I hoped there was a simple key combo (say, ctrl+f12), but nothing has worked. As such, I'm uploading the only bios file available on the Gateway site for my laptop.

Additionally, I'm including some of the things I've gone to try and figure this out, in case it helps with either modifying or upgrading the bios.

  • With the exception of the attached bios file (Phoenix Technologies LTD V1.14 10/22/2009), there is nothing on the Gateway site by way of support. If you contact customer support, they refer you to a third party site that will charge you for any actual assistance (answersby).
  • I ran Balarc Advisor, in the hopes of finding the specific name of my bios or motherboard, in the hopes of finding a direct answer about an advanced menu or updated bios. Couldn't find anything
  • Pheonix does not directly offer downloads. Instead they ALSO refer you to a third party website that will check if your bios is the most up to date (Mine isn't), and then offer to let you download it...for a $30 membership. It did mention that the board is actually made by Packard Bell.
Then I opened up the actual folder I got from Gateway to see if there was a simple on switch for complete bios menus.
  • Opened BIOS.bat, and saw the name of the exe and wph is "SJVGW114"; for dosflash, it uses the switches /x /s /c /mode=3 (could I just edit the switches or change the mode number to make it work?).
  • Opened Winflash64\settings.ini, and saw a list of update and verify commands, most were set to 0. Is there a specific one I could set to 1 to unlock my advenced menus?

If this has already been solved elsewher, and I somehow missed it, please let me know where to find it. If I just need to alter the bat or ini files, let me know and I'll try it out. If you know of a newer bios that would work better for me, please point me in that direction. If none of those are options, please mod my bios so I can finally get my bluetooth turned back on**. If I missed anything, please let me know.

* Also, this is less urgent, but there's an obnoxious shriek that sounds anytime I plug in or unplug the power cord, and I have to disable it through the freaking advanced bios. Even muting the system speak does nothing. Why does it do this? Who thought this was a good idea? Why, in the name of all that is holy would they force their customers to put up with this?? It's honestly less important than the Bluetooth, but if I can turn it off, I will be infinitely happier than if I get my Bluetooth working.

**AND THIS ACCURSED SHRIEK TURNED OFF!
