Dell Inspiron 7566 Help needed
#1
Dear Forum members,
I'm newbie in this bios modding things. I have Dell 7566 which is very slow compared to other laptops that has exactly same CPU, RAM & GPU [Lenovo Y700], even in benchmarks, I can see that my RAM performance is way lower than expected. I have changed my RAM but still performance is slow as this laptop sees my RAM speed as 2133 although it is 2400mhz, still Benchmarks shows that RAM performance is lower than expected.
is there any way to unlock more bios options, any way to make this laptop able to recognize higher RAM speeds. Is there any way to tweak it to perform better.
please help me.
Thanks in advance

You should have memory multiplier options, do you not? I see memory reference clock control option of 100 or 133, and then memory multipliers of auto, then 4-15 (Meaning 1995/2000 may be the top limit you can use, unless using XMP)

Are you using XMP, if not have you tried that and see if it increases speed? If you have tried, can you choose XMP 1 and XMP 2?

What are you looking at your ram speed with? Please show me image of CPU-z Memory tab (Not SPD tab), and also show SPD tab too while we're there I guess Smile

Do you have flash programmer? If not, order one now so you can flash modified BIOS. You need CH341A and a SOIC8 test clip cable, or a kit like EZP2010 or EZP2013

In Bios (or UEFI) Setup, there is no any options for xmp or to modify ram speed in any way.
I'm checking RAM capacity and speed from the 1st page in Bios which contains system information, also same speed can be seen in task manager, performance tab, under Memory (which is 2133).
actually in CPUZ it shows the real RAM speed which is 2400.
I will share screenshots later as I'm at work now.
regarding flashing custom, bios unfortunately I don't have the tools or the experience to do it.

CPU-z memory tab shows actual ram speed, windows related tools may not always show actual/current speeds.
CPU-z shows memory is running at 2133

You'll need to get the tools I mentioned to put modified BIOS onto your system, but I think even if I make visible all the memory options for you 2000Mhz is the highest you can set manually with memory multipliers as I mentioned above, but you may be able to choose XMP 1 or 2 vs what it's using now which is auto XMP. But, being able to change that may not matter, since your memory is programmed with 9 profiles and 8-9 are possibly the only ones with 2400 speed set and are not XMP profiles. However, I do see default (what it's using now) and "Custom" where I assume you can select more options, since there is an entire overclocking menu section but that is still limited to 100/133 x 15 max multiplier

Check with HWInfo64, and post an image of one of the memory sticks XMP profiles so I can see all visible profiles, all the profiles will be at the bottom on the right side f the large window once you select a memory stick. It may also not work at all for that, due to no XMP profiles, only JEDEC which is not the same at all.

Report does not show what I wanted to see, it doesn't show any of your 9 profiles, please take image. Also, do the same with AIDA64 (Full cracked version if you don't mind, if you don't own it) I am not sure if the free trial shows what I wanted to see, but you can check. In AIDA64, on left choose motherboard, then SPD Tab, show image of all the profiles shown in bottom right section

Sorry, I assumed it just wasn't shown in text reports, I checked with HWINFO64 and AIDA64 on my end, and text reports do show profiles but only XMP set profiles, rest JEDEC/SPD are just shown like you've already posted (not in profiles). So we can't see all your profiles, but we can tell that none of them are XMP, so wont be utilized by choosing XMP anyway.

So, this means even if you have all visible BIOS options you will only be able to use auto as you have now, or set manually to 100 or 133 x 15 = 2000, less than you run now, but you will be able to change timings in manual mode at least,
