Clevo m765s unlock request
#1
Hi,

I have an old laptop, it is a clevo m765s. I'm trying to make an ssd work properly (it is recognised but not bootable) and I want to find out if there would be any hidden options in the bios that would help
I flashed the latest bios (back from 2010) from this link: ftp://ftp.clevo.com.tw/ALLBIOS/M7xxS/746S_BIOS22.zip
But it didn't help much, except that it added the AHCI option for windows 7.

The ftp link I posted sometimes work, sometimes it doesn't.

Thank you in advance.

Not bootable? Did you install an operating system on it? If yes, how did you do that? If the SSD is from another system, you'll have to do a clean install probably, but maybe not. Please describe what is "Not bootable" mean to you. Are you trying to install windows, trying to boot an already loaded windows, if yes what is the BSOD error (last digits). If you are getting error ending in 7b, this means IDE/AHCI/RAID Setting is incorrect for the windows install, set to different setting and try again.

If no BSOD, what do you see when you start the system and try to let it load? It may just be incorrect BIOS settings, at Hard Disk Boot Priority list

Is this SSD tested and working on another system?

The SSD is brand new, I tried installing Linux on it and it successfully installs. Then, when I boot a linux live usb, I am able to mount the SSD, see its contents and verify that the OS files are indeed there, so the SSD does not seem to have a problem. But the SSD doesn't boot to the operating system, it doesn't appear as a boot option on bios and it's not recognised as a SATA device on the SATA options either.

When I try to install windows 7, the disc appears as an option, but when I try to select it, the error message is "Windows cannot be installed to Disk 0 Partition 1."

and the more detailed error message is "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu."

I have a question ,if you knew this link sometimes work ,it mean you already download this file .
Why don't you direct attach it???

Show me some images of the BIOS, all pages dealing with the HDD, boot order, and HDD Boot priority. It sounds like something is not set correctly there. And for your windows error, that possibly may be due to how it's currently formatted from Linux. At that disk selection screen, either select the disk/partition and choose delete and then do not create any partitions just click next and windows will create a partition. Or, at the bottom more options area, format the drive completely, removing all partitions, and then click next and windows will create it's system partition and the OS partition.

Thank you all for your replies, I will be away from home (and laptop) until Sunday, so then I will post these extra info.

Thank you Lost_N_BIOS , I had formatted the drive within the windows installation like you said to remove linux. Here are pictures from the bios: (sorry for the quality of all the pictures):

Also , I have attached the BIOS zip.

Thanks, image quality is fine! Was these images taken with the SSD installed, I don't see SSD listed there at all?
Or do you think it's #8 blank? If yes, did you try moving that to top, above TSSTCorp? After that, try windows install again since you've now formatted off Linux

Is this SSD NVME possibly? If you are not sure, please give me the exact full model name.
If NVME, it's very likely it's not compatible with your BIOS, so you would need to use alternative methods to boot a windows disk
