HP 8200 Elite CMT Bios Unlock Request
#1
Here is a link to the current bios updates. I wish for someone to please unhide memory speed selection options (currently 1866mhz memory is downclocked to 1333), and would also appreciate adding support for turbo mode control via Intel XTU.

Hi,
issue i have is the stupid bios locks the cpu to 34x multi no matter how many cores are in use.. It should be 38xmulti if 1 core is in use and 35x if all 4 and 34x is max non turbo multi..

i just want to manually set the clock multi. I dont even mind if i have to use throttle stop to make it work (it does not work with the current bios)

So any mods for the bios or any alternative bioses that would work with this board that have that option would be great..

I will attatch the bios i am currently using:

What CPU are you using? Do you have flash programmer (Hardware, like CH341A + SOIC8 test clip cable)?

i7 2600 (not k or S) and no eeprom flashing stuff any more but i can get one if needed.
just want the cpu to use the clocks it should use. and iff possible lock it at 38 for all cores.. i know you can do that on a 2600 as i did it in the past on an intell board.

Thanks. Did you try latest BIOS, it has updated microcode for your CPU (2018) vs the BIOS you attached is using 2011 microcode
https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-compaq-8200-elite-small-form-factor-pc/5037931

I would start there, before any BIOS modifications. Be sure once flashed you enter BIOS and load optimal or default settings, and then set SATA settings back to same you are using now (IDE or AHCI, RAID)

3.4Ghz is normal running speed, 3.8Ghz is single core turbo only as you mentioned. You enabled turbo already correct? What about C1E, EIST, Speedstep etc, did you disable those? Sometimes, I think C1E or C3 may need to be enabled for max turbo core speeds. Due to what I find and mention below, throttlestop or other software may be your only option to control the CPU

In case we do end up modifying your BIOS, please take some images of your BIOS and zip them up for me. I need to see at least one image that shows all currently visible sections, one that shows advanced contents (Both of those if you see two), one of main, and security

But really, even if some sections are hidden from you, I do not see any CPU related settings regarding this that would help if I enabled them. These seem to be the only CPU related settings in the BIOS >> Turbo Mode, Multi-Processor, and Hyperthreading

Think this video will show what i mean by the issues im having with the core multiples.
It seems its stuck at 35x regardless of core usage not 34x but throttle stop cant change it although it can disable turbo.

throttle stop also sees what the multi should be But it just cant change to them even though it seems to try and even if i put only 1 core under load with no HT it still will not go above 35x when it should at the very least step up to 38 under that scenario.
(regardless of how many cores are in use it will not turbo above 35x and that is a bios thing that cannot be changed in the bios if at all possible i want it to use 38x regardless of how many cores are in use. I know that a 2600 can do that at stock voltages but may need better cooling than comes with the hp system as standard. But im not gonna throw a new hs/fan on to this thing unless i can force it to use 38x)
Some may say that you cannot oc a 2600 Which is true But the clock multi is locked at 38x on the 2600 and all cores can use it even if all cores are in use. it just needs the option available in the bios. even if its not physically available to me in the bios there has to be a part of this bios thats locking the multi to 35x regardless of cores in use, so even if some one just changes that to 38 and does not provide any more options that would be great.

Any way heres the video

https://youtu.be/A13j6_teGRE

I will add some images of the bios later on as i need to find the camera to do that.

the bios does support the i7 2600 the previous bios supported it, but i updated to the one im using now to see if that fixed the issue, but other users said not to use the recent one as it makes boot times take forever.
Also this is he CMT not the sff elite 8200 But as far as im aware the bios is the same.
It is also a 12v only propriatray hp psu board but i modified in a 750w atx psu it is currently running with a r9 270x gpu and intel gpu is disabled. its worth mentioning the cpu would not go above 35x with the 12v psu either.

As for cpu temps. they are within thermal limits even at full load but the fans is whisper quiet. i can change the fan speeds to always 100% in the bios so tehe thing sounds like a hover craft, but that does not change the clock multi ratios.

It's normal. Windows use all cores. So you can't get more then 35x.
You can try to reduce count of available cores by msconfig and try again.
BTW: CPUs with Sandy Bridge don't support programmable ratio limits for Turbo Boost.

its not normal though as when i use a 2600 with an intel motherboard it turbos to 38. and i could set the core multi to 38x on all cores in the bios Never tried throttle stop or the intel tuning thing ion that system as i never had to. (think the board was a intel DQ67SW btw)

you can see i use occt to set the amount of cores i stress and it does not change.

I can understand how the behaviour may well be normal for this system. particularly as the settings i would need to change to fix it are not available in the system
And is very likely if i went to the bios and disabled all but 1 core and hyper threading it would clock up to 38x..

but that means that it was pointless putting in a 37x and 36x multi for the 2600 as i cannot dictate how many cores the cpu uses in the bios i get to chose. 1. 1+ht.. hall or all + ht. And it does not work like that on retail mother boards, retail boards even the q67 boards will let you set the multi to 38 on all cores

Nobody can do it for i7-2600.
