Asus ROG GL502VS Unlock Request
#11
Smile  Thanks eshield - I am still not 100% sure on unlocking this BIOS style, please only flash if you have flash programmer to recover.
If you do not want to be tester, then please wait or PM feluchi I think he knows for sure how to unlock this one.
I did learn new stuff since my last attempt on these, so I may have proper method now, you'll have to let me know.

Please test in order of biosname1-6.bin, and please be ready in advanced for recovery, as mentioned I am not 100% sure on unlocking this model yet, so there may be bricks (mainly only with files w/ AMIT in their name, but this may be key module too so don't be scared to test those unless you do not have programmer)
http://s000.tinyupload.com/index.php?fil...9241687079

This edit is to enable Chipset tab only for now.  If you need unlocked all settings inside advanced section, I need to see images of all visible submenus at root of advanced, and then any you are interested in also show their inner contents so I can enable what's missing inside.

If you are flashing via FPT, you need to first unlock BIOS Lock per my instructions here on post #27
You're BIOS Lock variable to use is >> 0x4FF
You're .efi file needs to be named Shell.efi
At grub prompt type the following >> setup_var 0x4FF 0x0

That ^^ will need to be done after any stock BIOS flash, or after flashing any BIOS I sent you that does not have "Setup" in it's name.

If you are using programmer, swap in mod BIOS regions with UEFITool to a full BIOS instead and program away.

NO ONE else use this BIOS, or you will loose your serial, UUID, windows key, and lan MAC ID possibly too depending on how you flash.
So, please don't!  If you need unlocked BIOS, please send me FPT BIOS region dump as mentioned above (once method to unlock is confirmed)

Well, I'm new to laptop bios unlocking so I done some research too.

So, yeah, I confirm that 0x4ff is a bios lock and I already disabled BIOS Lock. Played with some other setup vars and got C-States and HT disabled. Just in case to be sure the method is working.

Later this week I will do'n'post screens of Advanced tab of stock bios.

Thanks for your effort.

You're welcome, and thanks I await your images.

So, you don't have flash programmer? I need to know results of the other test BIOS before moving forward with unlocking advanced tab settings, unless you do not care/want chipset. If you don't want chipset, then flashing in mod BIOS is far less risky, since Advanced is already visible I can easily unlock anything in there with a single BIOS and 100% confidence, it's only the chpset tab that method to make visible needed all those test BIOS to find which worked for this type of BIOS style.

That's right. Unfortunately, I don't have a flash programmer. I'm willing to buy one but every time I'm going for one something stops me. Here is a screen of visible menu items in attachment.

Yet, I've tested very first and second roms, no visible changes.

I've been wondering all this time: Is it possible to use setup_var to show hidden tabs? IFR pseudocode gives me that idea. I'm not familiar feature workflow of setup module, but:
Code:
0x16095         Suppress If {0A 82}
0x16097             QuestionId: 0x8FA equals value 0x1 {12 86 FA 08 01 00}
0x1609D                 Not {17 02}
0x1609F             End {29 02}
0x160A1             Suppress If {0A 82}
0x160A3                 QuestionId: 0x98C equals value 0x1 {12 06 8C 09 01 00}
0x160A9                 Gray Out If {19 82}
0x160AB                     QuestionId: 0x8F7 equals value 0x1 {12 06 F7 08 01 00}
0x160B1                     One Of: ASUS USB Charger+ in battery mode, VarStoreInfo (VarOffset/VarName): 0x1, VarStore: 0x18, QuestionId: 0xD, Size: 1, Min: 0x0, Max 0x1, Step: 0x0 {05 91 83 10 84 10 0D 00 18 00 01 00 10 10 00 01 00}
0x160C2                         One Of Option: Enabled, Value (8 bit): 0x1 (default) {09 07 85 10 10 00 01}
0x160C9                         One Of Option: Disabled, Value (8 bit): 0x0 {09 07 86 10 00 00 00}
0x160D0                     End One Of {29 02}
0x160D2                 End If {29 02}
0x160D4             End If {29 02}
0x160D6         End If {29 02}
"ASUS USB Charger+ in battery mode" menu item will be shown and not grayed out if 0x8FA != 1 && 0x98C == 1 && 0x8F7 == 0, right?

Flash programmer is only $2.50 + $2.50 for SOIC8 test clip cable, order a set now and then you wont have to worry about how to flash mod BIOS again, or bad flashes etc.
Plus, you wont have to think about buying one again, you'll have it Big Grin

Thanks for Advanced Image.

YOu said >> I've tested very first and second roms, no visible changes
Please tell me exactly which BIOS by name this was, it wont help me right now but it will rule out "those method did not work on this system"
I need all tested, even if you test and next one works, I still need rest after that tested too, it's a process to find best way, not first way. I mean 3-4 I sent may work, but once I have report back on those I decide which is best method to use and then go on from there.

As mentioned, enabling chipset tab is the only hold up here. If you simply want all settings visible in advanced that can be done very quickly and very safely using AMIBCP, only takes a bunch of clicks after seeing images to compare with everything currently visible in advanced vs what's possible to make visible in AMIBCP

No, BIOS tabs/sections are not controlled like that, at least not major sections (What I consider a tab) like Main, Advanced, Chipset etc.
You can however enable individual settings to be visible like that, by either taking the setting outside of the constraints of suppress if / gray out (move end if's below setting to right in front of actual setting). Or you can all FF the variable that's within the actual suppress/gray "IF" I showed a visual example of both of those tonight here for another user
https://www.win-raid.com/t4415f16-SOLVED...l#msg73071

I think what you mentioned after the code is correct, and what I referred to last in my comment above, but I'm not 100% certain I decipher what you said Big Grin

Individual settings like that (and submenus) in an already visible menu section, can more easily be enabled with AMIBCP instead, it's easier, quicker and safer if you're not 100% familiar with BIOS editing, extracting/hex/replace properly etc. In AMIBCP simply set the settings "Access/Use Level" to "User" beside a hidden setting, then it will be visible. For this BIOS you can use 5.02.0023 or 5.02.0031

Any recommendations for a nice flash programmer?  Wink

I have tested Setuponly1.rom and SetupBCP2.rom so far. If I understood you correctly there is must higher risks to get nice brick by flashing the rest of modded roms, right?

Maybe I should postpone the experiments until I get a flash programmer Undecided ...

Any $2 CH341A will do just fine + You need SOIC8 test clip cable. There are more expensive kits, but these just come with the cables and adapters you may never use (just repackaged CH341A, some in larger plastic covered device, but all really same/same), for example EZP2010 or EZP2013. There is expensive flash programmers, like $50-80+ but I'm not familiar with any of their names.

Here's cheaper examples on ebay
https://www.ebay.com/itm/201316582787
https://www.ebay.com/itm/382486015977

Yes, those two are the least risky, but those two are also the lest possibility of working to enable chipset too. I only included them in case by off chance they'd work, I never expected they would, this is almost always done by the other methods in the next sets of files. It's not a high risk of bricking, just a chance I had to mention, I make these edits all the time so I'm not wildly and blindly stabbing in there or anything like that Big Grin

Yes, if you are not a risk taker, and especially if you do not have another system you can use in the meantime, wait until you have programmer in hand. I suggest that before flashing any stock BIOS thought too, same risk of bricking the board with stock BIOS as well.

I sent a PM fullmetaljacket7 from page 8, that user said they have programmer and were ready to play, maybe they will test all those for us and let me know which methods are working best and then I can give you a final no big risk to flash BIOS.

Thanks for report back! This means that AMITonly3.bin would be the ideal one to use, since it's the only one there with least possible edits needed to enable chipset, all rest have unnecessary edits on top of what's in that one that unlocked chipset. But, this BIOS does not have "BIOS Lock" disabled, if you want that disabled in all BIOS moving forward use AMITSetup5.bin instead. If you want me to remove the unnecessary edit on this one that's not needed for chipset, but leave BIOS lock disabled, let me know and I'll make you a new one you can use as your base BIOS

If you need more in the advanced that you can't see, send me images of all inside advanced, or you can compare yourself vs what you see in AMIBCP 5.02.0023 or .0031, and any that you can't see open AMITonly3 or AMITSetup5 in AMIBCP 5.02.x and set their "access/use" to User and they will be visible

Well, I've managed to unlock everything I wanted to! Thanks, mate! :-)

Played a bit with new features. Modded and reflashed ME region. Got BCLK unlocked and other OC stuff.
