Sony Vaio SVF152C29M / SVF1521B4E corrupted BIOS Winbond 25Q64FVSIG
#1
I have a Sony Vaio laptop next type:
Model SVF152C29M
Product name: SVF1521B4E
BIOS Chip: Winbond 25Q64FVSIG

The keyboard and touchpad are frozen. I can use only USB keyboard and USB mouse when the USB drivers are loaded.
I cannot enter in BIOS.
I can boot from USB stick only Linux, I do not know why not Windows live or installation/repair.
I think BIOS firmware is corrupted.
I wanted to update the BIOS, re-flash it, but it seems I can do it only in Win10:
https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/suppo...s/Z0007780
And I cannot boot Windows live OS from USB stick. It starts and then is locked in an infinite loop.

My questions for you are:
-          Can I re-flash the BIOS and make it open/accessible from keyboard with the tools described here?
-          For example:
https://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-G...programmer
-          Could be possible that keyboard and touchpad are frozen due to corrupted BIOS? I have replaced the keyboard with a new one and is the same frozen situation.
Or is it a deeper problem with the motherboard, beyond the BIOS?
-          If I buy the USB programmer for Winbond 25Q64FVSIG chip and I extract the .bin file, can anyone help to fix that BIOS firmware? Or is it anywhere free to download as original BIOS settings?
-          Can I extract the firmware file from .exe file Win10 32bit link above and get the .bin file to program it with USB programmer CH341A from tutorial above?

Hello Dudu2002,
I do not have yet the USB programmer CH341A.
I want to order it on eBay and takes 1 week until I get it. Then I dump the BIOS and I can upload the .bin file somewhere online as Google drive and then I can provide a link here or private.
But at this stage I only wanted to know if someone can help or provide the BIOS firmware for my laptop.
If you can do it, then I order right away the USB programmer CH341A.

Hello Dudu2002,

I have ordered the he USB programmer CH341A from eBay.
It takes around 1 week to get it.
After I will have it in my hands, latest 1 day afterwards, I will connect it to the BIOS chip and dump the firmware.
1 week from now on I will come back with updates.

Finally I have received the CH341A Programmer from China, after 1 week delay.
I have tested on one PC and did not work. The drivers installed correctly, the software detected the programmer, but the reading of the chip worked only with v18 of the software. I have tried many versions of the software: v13, v18, v26, v29, v30, v34.
My CH341A Programmer is the Black Edition.
Unfortunately inside the v18 is not my chip listed Winbond 25Q64FVSIG. It is only 25Q64BV, but not 25Q64FV. Only in the versions from v29 up I could see my chip Winbond 25Q64FV listed.
The PC has an antivirus, which I am not allowed and I cannot turn off. For version v29 automatically the .exe was removed for example when I unpacked the rar or 7zip archive.
Then I have moved to a 2nd PC where I could turn off the antivirus and I have tested the same versions of the software.
Now it worked different. I could run also v29 and also v34. The version v30 starts but gives and error later, so I skipped it.
Both PCs are Win7 64 bits.
I have read the chip several times. I could read it also with v18 choosing 25Q64BV instead of 25Q64FV for the chip. The best for me works with v34.
I think we can rely on v34 readings.
Below is a link with the .bin files that I have read with different versions of the software and verified and also print screen when the verifying was complete.

One more time, the laptop is Sony Vaio next type:
Model SVF152C29M
Product name: SVF1521B4E
BIOS Chip: Winbond 25Q64FVSIG

Can you now help me to find if it is corrupted and provide a proper bin file?

P.S. Since 2 weeks ago, I have tried all kind of USB booting live CDs and one time using Win10 32bit install package on USB it just let me enter the BIOS again and I could change from Legacy to UEFI as it was initially, with USB drive as 1st boot device and since then I could not enter again in BISO no matter what. I can boot live Linux/Ubuntu USB sticks but never Windows live CD s, neither repair/new install packages, only Linux and I do not know why.

Nobody can check if "Sony_Vaio_34.bin" BIOS file from here is corrupt or not?

For W25Q64FV you may need to choose 25Q64BV, I've tested this at length a few times. This is with general CH341A software though, the versions you mention I do not recognize so may or may not be same software? I use this software 1.30 works good for these W25Q64 chips, but you need to choose BV for the FV chip

Sony_Vaio_34.bin looks OK to me, in general. If you remove hard drive, can you then enter BIOS? How about after clearing CMOS?
Fast boot may be enabled, causing this issue, or adding to it. Default is disabled, but if you can't clear CMOS then it may have been enabled by someone previously. Boot mode is set to UEFI by default, and Secure Boot mode is enabled, so for anything windows you'll need to use GPT partition to install from and to.

You can use 3MB BIOS cut from the extracted files out of the exe, to rebuild the BIOS region from your dump, but you'll loose board specific data if someone doesn't transfer that over for you. (5MB is ME FW region - 1.5MB ME + Padding/FF) But I don't think BIOS is corrupted.

Are you trying to install windows to a NVME or standard drive/SSD? If Secure Boot Mode = Enabled, and Boot Mode is UEFI, you need to install from media source that is on GPT, to a GPT partition. If you disable secure boot mode and change boot mode to legacy, you can install to MBR from MBR
