Asus P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 BIOS 3703 with all OROMS/LAN/VGA updated
#31
I've successfully loaded RaYMoN's BIOS, and everything looks decent except for one issue.  When OC'd @ 4.6Ghz, CPU-Z is reporting that my core voltage is occasionally hitting 1.4v+ (!!)  That max safe vcore for Sandy Bridge is 1.35, and the highest I had before with ZzBloopzZ (and ASUS's) was 1.344-1.352.

I have all CPU power savings turned on.  All C states enabled.  Internal PLL overvoltage disabled (was always previously enabled).  Spreadspectrum disabled.  Speedstep and Enhanced Speedstep enabled.  I have left the manual voltages as they were after resetting to optimized defaults.

Ideas?

Don't use auto CPU voltage, because MB automatically raise voltage for system stability. Set it manually.

Load-line Calibration in auto can affect on CPU voltage. Set it manually.

Different versions of CPU microcodes can differently affect overclocking.

Try this settings:

Load-line Calibration -> Ultra High

CPU Voltage -> Manual Mode
CPU Manual Voltage -> 1.350

DRAM Voltage -> 1.5000

VCCIO Voltage -> 1.0500 (default)
CPU PLL Voltage -> 1.8000 (default)
PCH Voltage -> 1.0500 (default)

If system will be stable, try this:

CPU Voltage -> Offset Mode
CPU Offset Mode Sign -> minus
CPU Offset Voltage -> start from Auto and check CPU-Z Vcore voltage, than add 0.005V and check CPU-Z again. You need to add offset to desired 1.350V in CPU-Z.

Offset Mode is preferable with power saving options enabled.

I'm sorry for my English, I'm from Russia Blush

Is this version going to work on P8Z68-V GEN3 (NON-PRO) MOBO? The latest BIOS version that I've found available on Asus website is 3603.

Is it possible to add a proper UEFI mod to this BIOS?  My last two video cards (AMD and Nvidia) would not even POST with the "BIOS Compatibility" option set to "EFI Compatible"  instead I've had to use the Legacy option.

I'll send it to you, but really to whom you have to thank your work is to Rayman.
He has integrated the latest version of microcode in the BIOS and sent it to me privately, but as days have passed I see that he has not published it, I have decided to publish it myself.

Thank you very much Rayman.

Thanks for the P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 update!

However I  am having a problem and am hoping someone here can help.  I recently upgraded my Comcast connection to full gigabit/s speed but cannot get that speed to actually download.

Comcast has sent two teams to check every possible connection problem, replaced every cable, removed splices, checked the modem and could not find a problem.  Finally they unplugged my ethernet wire from my system and directly plugged that into their test system... and their system downloaded at 1.25Gb/s, whereas mine is stuck at 500-700Mb/s.  (tested by Ookla and the Xfinity speedtests)

I have checked everything on the software side.  Latest network drivers, disabled virus scanner, no malware (ran Hitman Pro), rebuilt Winsock. No help.

All I can think of is that I am running Raymond's latest bios mod, which uses the 0.1.13 CL network LAN OROM instead of the 1.5.62 GE OROM.  I know that Raymond researched the differences, but the original ASUS Bios used the 1.3GE code and that ZzBloopzZ's updates to 1.5+ OROM also ran fine, but were untested at full Gb capability.

Long ago I updated the 82579V Gbit firmware to v1.5 here.  Maybe there is now a mismatch between the adapter running GE firmware and the OROM using the CL code?

Could Raymond or someone take this very latest update (posted by Markosgo) and replace the LAN OROM with the GE version so I can test the issue further?

Does anyone else have a problem pulling a full Gbit using the CL code?

Hi, Cyberia!

The latest BIOS MOD uses the Intel Boot Agent CL OROM v 0.1.14 which is designed for Intel i82579 Gigabit NIC:

biosmod

I use a gigabit connection at home with Mikrotik RB951G-2HnD and everything works at maximum speed.

Try this driver settings:

Flow Control - Disabled
Interrupt Moderation - Disabled
Interrupt Moderation Rate - Off
Large Send Offload v2 (IPv4) - Disabled
Large Send Offload v2 (IPv6) - Disabled
Packet Priority & VLAN - Packet Priority & VLAN Disabled
Receive Buffers - 2048 (max)
Transmit Buffers - 2048 (max)

All other setting leave to default.

Another thing you should try is SG TCP Optimizer: https://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php

More useful info here: https://www.speedguide.net/articles/wind...weaks-5077

Good luck!

I got it. I deleted a LOT of old drivers and unnecessary Windows components and that helped some. But then I disabled my virus scanner and BAM got a full Gb download. Should have checked that first....

BTW: Intel Chipset Device Software 10.1.1.45 WHQL is now available, includes Z68 series.
