Asus P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 BIOS 3703 with all OROMS/LAN/VGA updated
#41
RaYMaN - Did you know someone posted a beta bios for the ASUS P8Z68V/GEN3 (not Pro) that fully enables UEFI and the EFI BOOT option?  It would have to be ported over to the Pro board, but AFAIK the only difference is that Pro has the Marvell and Jmicron controllers, which I don't think matter for this.  But it would let us do a UEFI OS install with the modern GPT instead of the legacy MBR. Plus Fastboot!

There's a thread on it here: https://www.win-raid.com/t705f13-LEGACY-...l#msg15908

The file isn't available anymore but I'm sure I/we could get.  Interested?

Might have to also add the Intel EFI RaidDriver 12.9.2006 module, they discuss this at length here: https://www.win-raid.com/t2f23-Intel-RST...l#msg16138

I have an UEFI OS installed on the GPT partition with disabled EFI BOOT option:

You don't need a modded bios to install OS in UEFI mode.

Do you still get Fastboot?  Did you just install normally?  With your current Bios mod?  I'm asking because I'm finally switching to Win10 soon.

No, I don't get Fastboot because BIOS don't have this option.

Yes, I did. You need to manually wipe a drive and convert it to GPT, just follow the manual and all will be fine.

Thanks for that info.

I was just looking back through this thread and saw this picture you posted:

The EFI RAID (12.9.0.2006) and GOP Drivers are not present, as shown.  Could you insert them?  I mean is it possible and not too difficult?  I know for a fact that the EFI BOOT option hangs at system post because there is no GOP Driver in the Bios.  Old video cards without a GOP/EFI header DO boot up fine with EFI BOOT enabled, and boot speed is MUCH faster too.  Once I got a newer card WITH a GOP header only then did the system hang at Post.  This why the EFI BOOT option doesn't work in general.

I suspect the EFI RAID driver would also speed up boot.  Just a request I suppose.

As an unrelated question why does my Bios list 4 keyboards, 3 mice and 2 hubs?  Trust me I have 1 keyboard, 1 mouse and 1 hub. Big Grin

Thanks again.

Try it: MODDED-P8Z68-V-PRO-GEN3-ASUS-3802N-SLIC-EFI-NVMe.ROM

I just flashed it - it works fine in Legacy mode, but when I choose EFI Compatible ROM option my PC shows black screen and hangs. Clear CMOS - all OK again.

Why are there 4 Marvell OROMS?  And two versions of them? Are they EFI compatible?  Do they even need to be?
EDIT: Nevermind I figured it out. 1 version is OROM the other is EFI but why 2 sets?

Does the network ROM need an EFI mod?

I haven't had time to test it yet (Mom turns 65 tomorrow been planning the party...Youre invited Big Grin ), but I believe you.

I recommend you to download the latest original BIOS from the ASUS website, download the latest UEFI BIOS Updater and start making your own BIOS, because I also don’t have time for testing.

It is not necessary to make a clear cmos, disconnecting the gpu from the pcie and starting the pc without it, the pc starts with the integrated gpu ... You just have to restore the option to legacy rom and re-click the gpu again.

That option only works with the integrated one, but with the dedicated ones there is no way to get it started and it gives a nice black screen.

I also have W10 installed in uefi mode, you just have to create a pendrive in gtp mode with Rufus and install it normally, you have to remove all the partitions of the disk to install the OS so that the installation creates it in Uefi / Gtp mode.

By the way Rayman, that new bios that is published is newer than the one you passed me by private, is it better?

Greetings.

I have found that you can recover from the post lock-up if your preferred graphic option is set to AUTO, rather than PCIE. Just tap DEL during the logo screen and wait 4.5 minutes. The system will do the normal POST beep, then give an Error beep every 30s for ~2 mins. Then the screen will go full black for ~2 minutes, but the monitor will not lose signal. Then he screen will distort and strange graphics/text will appear for a few seconds. And then suddenly the BIOS page will open normally and you can reconfigure.

OR

Again if your graphics is set to AUTO, you can simply unplug the monitor from the graphics card and plug into the iGPU and reboot.
