ASUS p5ad2-E Premium with Silicon Image 3114 unlock bigger harddrives
#1
Hello,

I'm new here and hope to get help.

I'm using the ASUS p5ad2-E Premium m/b.
The problem is, that the onboard Silicon Image 3114 SATA-RAID-Controller just supports HDD up to 500GB, and fault when connecting 1TB and bigger.
I've heard that newest firmware of 3114 controller can solve my problem and many people generated new BIOS with new 3114 firmware for their motherboards. So i read some forums, found some solution, but it not helps me, because my bios is not AWARD, but AMI, so 'CBROM' utility is useless in that case.

So I need someone that can integrate new 3114 firmware into the actual stable release of m/b BIOS (P5AD2-E Premium BIOS version 1005) or describe how to do it by myself.

Please help me .

PS.
M/B BIOS is http://dlsvr.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/socket...Ep1005.zip (or can be downloaded from page http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=nTHCKOGeEqArj1uY# )

I found some different 3114 firmware files on http://www.siliconimage.com/support/sear...spx?pid=28&cat=15 but cant decide wich of them are good for me:

Hi Mate

the link you want I believe is the 1st one you provided , as its a later version. The 2nd link was to an older version.

The README states the following:-

Quote:b5403.bin - add-in card base BIOS

r5403.bin - add-in card raid BIOS

5403.bin - motherboard BIOS for OEM use in development. This BIOS is not intended for general end-users. End-users with a SiI3114 onboard a motherboard, please contact the motherboard manufacturer for a BIOS upgrade.

So we should use the bottom one Tongue

There were 4 PCI extra ROMS in this bios , so I had to work out which one was the Onboard SATA-RAID Controller. The default RAID bios said Silicon Image v5.0.39. This updated image is v5.4.0.3.

I then replaced the image with the newer one in the download.

Flash this mod at your own risk!

Thank you !
And sorry for disturbing you.
Yesterday I can made that by myself (when found programm for AMI BIOS - MMTool). I extract the original firmware block and choose new one with the same size Wink It was 5.0.73 version (yes, its minor version, but same date than other one, so i was think it has big hdd support too, and i was right. The different is only for RAID mode, but i using soft raid aka gmirror)
The hardest thing was... booting from usb flash Wink

Thank you. I tried to build this Bios by myself and I do not think i replaced the correct rom. It almost bricked my bios, but I used Afudos to flash back to latest stable bios and then flashed your modded bios from windows with asus Update. Thanks Again

sorry to revive this thread. I am wondering if the bios file is still available? tried the link but seems to be dead. i know this is a long shot but does someone still have the following bios rom? I am on the same boat. Trying to upgrade my raid with 1tb drives and it seems to hang the system. Only drives with 500gb or smaller work with no issues.
Thanks for you help in advance.

I don't have this file, but I understand how it can be done. Search the Internet for the file BIO-003114-x10_5403.zip, unpack all and read the README.
Open the motherboard bios with MMTool 3.22(3.23), select the Replace tab, choose in list ID 20 with RunLoc 1095:3114, browse 5403.bin(61440 bytes), click "Replace" button, then "Save ROM as" to save result into new bios file.

Thanks let me give this a try now and will let you know what happens.

Just created the BIOS file and flashed the motherboard everything is working now. I had all the files and just didnt know which rom to replace. It seems that i over looked the RunLoc.
