As you can see Im still on the orginal BIOS with no settings whatsoever... Im having troubles with booting up from USB (laptop freezes on POST screen when USB stick connected). Figured maybe update of the BIOS will resolve the issue - worth a try right? Can anyone provide me with the link to unlocked BIOS or update of BIOS to higher version of possible?
Ill update you if it worked, thanks!
EDIT: I found some modified 1.13 version and got the settings unlocked but no luck - still can not boot from USB. Not sure what is the problem - maybe I need a higher version of BIOS? Looking for update procedure right now!
EDIT2: Im up to BIOS 2.09 now! I can see a lot of settings that could help while booting up from USB that Win10 installation but they're locked. For anyone interested in topic here's what I've done:
1. I updated my 1.13 BIOS with this file: https://www.bios-mods.com/forum/attachment.php?aid=4683 That gave me unlocked BIOS 1.13.
2. Then I could update from 1.13 to 2.09 with this file: https://fs05n3.sendspace.com/dl/97690964...9_SLIC.rar
3. The last step was to update my BIOS to the newest unlocked versio which I found here: http://acerfans.ru/uploads/forum/files/1...tyluty.rar That package contains unlocked version 2.21. Instructions are inside the package in readme file but I found more clear ones on youtube:
The best information is - MY LAPTOP DOES NOT GET STUCK ON THE POST SCREEN WITH USB STICK IN IT! I can finally install windows 10 yay!
Funny I came here for help and it came out the other way around. Hopefully it will save some trouble for a lot of people!
NOTE: This is an old way to convert Legacy BIOS to UEFI on the V3-571G, follow this link at: http://catchtito.blogspot.com/2013/05/ho...-bios.html
The above link is the way to convert the V3-571G's Legacy BIOS to UEFI BIOS, use the HxD editor to mod the v2.21 BIOS and flash, follow it closely and you will be able to convert v1.13 to the UEFI v2.21 for the V3-571G, cheers and hope this helps.
I have been following your steps to update the bios on my laptop and was able to update to 1.13 (part 1) but your link to the 1.13 to 2.09 file doesnt work. Can you upload a new link to a working download please?
EVMark...follow this link and do exactly what is instructed in this link, its simple and worked for me 100% to convert MBR/Legacy bios to GPT/UEFI on my V3-571G, see this and follow it exactly at: http://catchtito.blogspot.com/2013/05/ho...-bios.html
Note: that you HAVE TO either re-install Windows 8 or 10 in UEFI/GPT mode or convert your previous Windows 8 or 10 MBR/Legacy to UEFI/GPT mode installation after updating from bios 1.xx to 2.xx bios as UEFI/GPT is a different bios format and its in a GPT format and any MBR/Legacy won't work or boot, unless you change it to MBR/Legacy mode to boot, see this article “How to Convert MBR to GPT Disk in Windows 10” here: https://www.thewindowsclub.com/convert-mbr-to-gpt-disk/ as after you have converted the bios to UEFI from Legacy (MBR) the HDD Windows 10 (Legacy (MBR) wont be recognised by the NEW UEFI bios.
The v1.13 bios is the MBR/Legacy bios, both v2.17 and v2.21 bios are GPT/UEFI (download bios v2.21 from Acer Support here: https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/support-product/4077?b=1) then use the process shown below with HEX_EDIT software (download from here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/hexedit/) to edit the v2.21 bios within Windows (like below) and install the UEFI?GPT mod v2.21 Q5WV1221.exe bios within Windows 8 or 10, its an executable file that will update the bios within Windows, its very simple and works 100%, its not rocket science lol
Here are the instructions to convert MBR bios to UEFI bios in the Aspire V3-571G do exactly the same as instructed here:
For some laptops Acer (and its subsidiaries) choose a weird way of delivering bios updates. When a model is sold without Windows 8 or 10, which is delivered with MBR Legacy bios version 1.xx which lacks UEFI booting and Secure Boot support. If the same model is sold with Windows 8, then its is delivered with 2.xx bios with the option of UEFI booting and Secure Boot. That is the bottom line with the Aspire V3-571G or V3-571.
Problem is a user can't update from 1.xx bios to 2.xx bios with the downloaded bios update. Its shows: "Please update to the same type of bios (v.1.x)".
To avoid this detection, we have to hex-edit a bit.
Open the bios update application with your favorite hex editor and locate the following:
Quote:DisableSecureCapsuleFlash=1
Change it as follows:
Quote:DisableSecureCapsuleFlash=0
Save the changes. You can now update to 2.x using this modded bios. Flash from DOS or Windows.
If you can't find the above string in the bios update application, then we need to take another path.
Extract the application using 7-Zip and try to locate isflash.bin (which is your bios file) & platform.ini. Then open them with hex editor and change like above. Now flash using InsydeFlash.exe.
To overcome all of the checks, we need to edit more:
Quote:DisableCompare=0
to
DisableCompare=1
&
Quote:SkipSecureBootProtectionCheck=0
to
SkipSecureBootProtectionCheck=1
If you want a SLIC mod, then mod the downloaded bios update using andyp's tool. We have to alter another thing to flash the SLIC modded bios.
Again open the bios update application with your favorite hex editor and locate the following:
Quote:[ForceFlash]
ALL=0
Change it as follows:
Quote:[ForceFlash]
ALL=1

Hi, thanks for your reply. I have tried your advice and run into the following problems.
1) My Bios is now v2.21 but doesnt show Advanced options
2) My bios only shows 64MB video ram instead of 128.
EVMark...its not worth risking modding your bios for an “Advance” addition that won’t make much difference (get a new and current laptop, as you can’t get “blood out of a stone” lol) and/or boost performance much more, as you have to test and be very careful with this mod which can and most likely will brick your pc.
Answers to your points:
To No 1. As I’ve said before, “Advanced Options” in bios is a very complicated mod that you need to know what you are doing, have a look here at the procedure to do this:
https://www.win-raid.com/t4529f16-Acer-V...rsion.html for a great guide to get the Advance mod in bios.
Be Warned I take no responsibility if you stuff this up as “Advanced Options” can and will brick your pc, if you don’t know what you are doing!
To No 2. My V3-571G (with cpu i7-3610QM and with the NVIDIA GT640M) also shows the same “Video Memory: 64MB” in bios only, so what? That means nothing and makes no difference as the real video dedicate for the NVIDIA GT640M is 2048MB.
Go to NVIDIA > Control Panel > Help > System Information to see all details.
For the Intel HD4000 “Total Available Graphics Memory is 1792MB” and its real Dedicated memory is 32MB.
Go to “Desktop (right click) > Display Settings > Advanced display settings > Display adapter properties on Display 1 > in the next window you will be able to find the following info for the Intel HD4000 Graphics:
Total Available Graphics Memory: 1792MB
Dedicated Video Memory: 32MB
System Video Memory: 0MB
Shared System Memory: 1760MB
Cheers and hope this helps.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I wanted the bios to be modded because i plan on using this laptop for linux distributions and will be likely switching between them as time goes on, im also considering if i should make another hackintosh and am planning a CPU swap to a quad core i7. This isnt my main laptop so will be wiped regularly and used for other things. Ideally i would like the bios to be unlocked and correct for those reasons. Is there an unlocked bios that i can just install from Windows. I only put windows 10 on to update the bios. I am aware that if i don't update the bios they do get lost over time and i may not be able to update it in the years to come.

Here goes.
I have V3-571G laptop. Screen is FHD 15.6" AUO B156HAN09.0 - € 130,10
Bios unlocked flashed this one http://acerfans.ru/index.php?do=forum&ac...t&id=23899
You can see datasheet and specs here: https://www.twscreen.com/en/lcdpanel/21402
The OS is Windows 10. Screen is IPS 8bit
Problem is that very bad dithering! There is no PWM flicker of backlight (measured).
Tried the ditherig app v2, and v1.7 does not work at all. I can see pixels flashing like crazy with slow motion camera.
Why screen in BIOS is 18bit or 24bit???? I need 8bit to avoid dithering like crazy.
Dithering video 120fps
