[request] Acer Veriton 3900Pro newer cpu support
#1
Hi there,
I own a board for Acer Veriton 3900Pro and I want to run an Intel E7600 on it.
It is a 45nm CPU. It seems Acer doesn't seem give an update for recent cpus.
When I got the board, it came with an Intel E4300 and not working because there was a missing jumper where BIOS_SEL jumper is. This board uses SPI instead of classic square bios chip.
Then I put an Intel E2220 and it works.
Then this morning I put an Intel E5800 fsb 800 and cpu fan max spins like crazy and nothing happens.
E2220 went back again and it works. I had to reconfigure BIOS because I removed cell coin battery.
This Acer Veriton 3900Pro is an clone modified board from Foxconn q9657MC-something.
I read somewhere someone sucessfully put the bios for Foxconn onto this Acer Veriton just because there is a recent version like from 2009 but I'm not going to do that. I don't seem to find the foxconn downloads for this board and some sites provides this update but inside there are 3 bin files, the big one has more than 1 megabyte.
I tried myself to inject cpu microcode into Acer Veriton's r03-A4 bios but without sucess.
I'm using cbrom 1.98 and command CBROM198.EXE 689A1P68.bin /nc_cpucode ncpucode.bin
Even releasing/removing the nc_cpucode and trying re-adding, won't work.
There is a cpu-z validation ending zzvbe9 that shows an hp with q965 chipset running e7600 but it seems to be using their own hp bios.
Can someone here help to inject all core2duo/pentium dual core into this Acer Veriton 3900Pro bios or point me/test what I'm doing wrong? Thanks.  Btw, the new thread form seems screwed up no matter which browser I use.

I also added 2 cam captures of the bios itself. When the board came to life, it had r03-a0. There are mentions of ancient bios releases like r01-something. I don't know if this board has been flashed with foxconn bios before. Someone somewhere mentioned lost ability to control part of Intel ME because they had acer bios, then flashed foxconn, then latest acer bios.
The bios post screenshot mentions 2 IDE but the board has no IDE connectors. I believe this is related to an Intel ME feature named IDE redirection. I am unable to turn them off or configure part of Intel ME because it fails to access something.
After I upgraded from R03-A0 to R03-A4, I noticed some changes within bios itself. One of them was the missing product serials and product name changed from Veriton 3900 to just Veriton. I re-added back using Award DMI editor.

Did you tried to boot with E4300 and E5800 after flashing BIOS R03-A4?

When I upgraded bios, the bpard had an Intel Celeron D something (an weak cpu) installed because I was trying to revive the board and ended up the bloody missing jumper BIOS_SEL. I got screenshots of the bios post with the celeron installed.
The E4300 came with the board which faster than Celeron D.... and then I had an Intel E2220 laying around, ended up installing it because it's faster than E4300. E2220 id's is 6FDh. E5800 and E7600 share same id 1067Ah which is a missing microcode.

C:\bios>intelmicrocodelist.exe 689A1P68.bin
Intel Microcode List ver0.4a

(...skipping some lines...)
CPUID=10660 Rev=04 2006/06/12 CRC=6CC60901 Off=DCFE0 Size=1000 Plat=0,1
CPUID=10661 Rev=32 2007/03/16 CRC=0B13F1ED Off=DDFE0 Size=1000 Plat=0
CPUID=6FD Rev=A1 2007/03/13 CRC=020EA906 Off=DEFE0 Size=1000 Plat=0
^^^^^^ this 6FD is responsible to make E2220 to work with the board

I just tried to run CBROM198.EXE 689A1P68.bin /nc_cpucode cpu1067A_plat44_ver00000A0E_2015-07-29_PRD_A3107D75.bin which doesn't seem to work.

I asked you about real experiments with new CPUs, not about microcode in BIOS.

Cpu experiments.... well...
Celeron D 330 (i think) worked. EDIT: SL7TM aka Intel Celeron D 330J.
E4300 worked.
E2220 works.
E5800 did not work. It is working with an Asus P5GC-MX/1333. This board doesn't like much of 1066/1333 cpus because it has to callibrate itself.
E6750 1333mhz fsb cpu does not work.
E7600 was recently bought from aliexpress, yet to arrive.
I believe I also tried one or two Pentium 4 cpus because the metal coating where cpu identification is was fainted or unreadable.
EDIT:
E5200 NOT tested. Working with a 775i65G R2.0. It just takes time to boot up due calibration. I did a refresh to microcode of bios but didn't do anything.
E6320 1066mhz fsb (apparently) NOT tested: Replaced with a E6750 with E5200 of a Asus P5KPL-AM SE. Not sure where I put the E6320.

To add new microcode make empty file NCPUCODE.BIN and run:
CBROM196 689A1P68.bin /nc_cpucode NCPUCODE.BIN
copy /b NCPUCODE.BIN+cpu1067A_plat44_ver00000A0E_2015-07-29_PRD_A3107D75.bin NCPUCODE.BIN
attrib +R NCPUCODE.BIN
CBROM196 689A1P68.bin /nc_cpucode NCPUCODE.BIN
