[REQ] Asus UX480FD Bios 313
#11
A few things:

1.) Could I get that copy of your new BIOS dump after flashing? I want to ensure it flashed properly, even though it said it did (in theory, it shouldn't have been able to flash at all if either BIOS flash prevention setting was set to enabled).

2.) Is there a UEFI Variable named "Setup"? If so, is it large enough so that it contains offset 0x1206 (1206)? In theory, both FPRR (0x1206) and BIOS Lock (0xBC4) should be in the same UEFI Variable - the one that corresponds to PCH-IO Configuration under the Chipset Menu. We just need to locate the right variable.

3.) For our reference...
BIOS Lock: Chipset -> PCH-IO Configuration -> Security Configuration -> BIOS Lock
Flash Protection Range Registers: Chipset -> PCH-IO Configuration -> FPRR

2.) Combat misinformation on social media.

Also, please feel free to PM me if I have not replied again about your BIOS mod request after 5 days.

Hello,

Thanks for the uploads.

I have confirmed that the mod did in fact flash properly. This means that all necessary settings have been changed in RU to enable flashing. The problem is with my mod.

I have created a new mod. This time, I edited not only the Setup module, but also the AMITSE module. This BIOS is a little different that the ones I normally see, but I think your BIOS Setup Utility should at least look different than before. In theory, you will see Advanced, Advanced, Chipset, Overclocking Performance Menu, Boot, Security, and Save & Exit - in that order.

Let me know if anything changes. If nothing changes at all in the BIOS Setup Utility but...

(1) the mod appeared to flash: could you upload one more dump after the flash just so I can confirm everything is still working? (it's strange how you got the error but the BIOS mod still flashed last time, so I want to be sure)

(2) the mod refused to flash, citing errors from before, and you don't see any changes in the BIOS menus: try disabling BIOS Lock again (it was likely reset to default following the flash) and flash again. Then upload a post-flash dump if nothing changes.

Awesome! I'm glad it worked!

So the trick was the add the desired menus' short IDs to the allow list in the AMITSE module.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For reference for other modders....

These short ID's were 12 27 for Advanced2 ; 13 27 for Chipset ; and 99 27 for Overclocking Performance Menu. I made the modifications below in the AMITSE module at offset 0x5A3E0:

4A 10 59 7B 0D C0 58 41 87 FF F0 4D 63 96 A9 15
(11 27 -> 12 27) 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 <- hidden Main Menu replaced with Advanced2 Menu
4A 10 59 7B 0D C0 58 41 87 FF F0 4D 63 96 A9 15
(1B 27 -> 17 27) 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 <-normal Advanced moved here over other hidden Main Menu
4A 10 59 7B 0D C0 58 41 87 FF F0 4D 63 96 A9 15
(16 27 -> 13 27) 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 <- Visible Main Menu removed entirely for space for Chipset Menu
4A 10 59 7B 0D C0 58 41 87 FF F0 4D 63 96 A9 15
(17 27 -> 99 27) 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 <- Overclocking Performance Menu added over moved normal Advanced
4A 10 59 7B 0D C0 58 41 87 FF F0 4D 63 96 A9 15
18 27 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 <- unmodified
4A 10 59 7B 0D C0 58 41 87 FF F0 4D 63 96 A9 15
19 27 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 <- unmodified
4A 10 59 7B 0D C0 58 41 87 FF F0 4D 63 96 A9 15
1A 27 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 <- unmodified

The resulting order after the BIOS flash was different, however, so I think that the order is determined in the Setup module, but I'll have to look more into that later.

At the end of these entries near the top of the IFR text file produced by running Donovan6000's Universal IFR Extractor on the extracted body (section PE32 image) of the Setup module in the BIOS image (Setup found and extracted with UEFITool), you can find the short ID's of some of the menus.
0x26F93 Ref: Advanced, Variable: 0xFFFF {0F 0F 1E 00 02 00 07 00 00 00 FF FF 00 17 27}
0x26FA2 Ref: Boot, Variable: 0xFFFF {0F 0F 20 00 02 00 08 00 00 00 FF FF 00 18 27}
0x26FB1 Ref: Security, Variable: 0xFFFF {0F 0F 3A 00 02 00 09 00 00 00 FF FF 00 19 27}
0x26FC0 Ref: Save & Exit, Variable: 0xFFFF {0F 0F 4D 00 02 00 0A 00 00 00 FF FF 00 1A 27}

Others like 99 27 for the Overclocking Performance Menu had to be found by locating the menu entry later in the IFR text and recording the middle 4 hex numbers "99 27":

0x2EA7F Form: OverClocking Performance Menu, Form ID: 0x2799 {01 86 99 27 9D 13}

In addition to AMITSE mods, I also replaced 11 27 (hidden Main) with 99 27 in the Setup module near the top.

Now, i change the subject of the problem... i don't know if it's the right forum but...

I have this problem : Win10 tells me that BT and WIFI have code 10 problem, so it should be a POWER FAILURE. Do you understand about connectivy options in the BIOS advanced interface? I've attached the photos.

Hello,

This seems to be a common issue with the Intel Wireless AC 9560 card. Many people have had success resetting their BIOS to default settings to resolve the issue. Probably some hidden configuration changed/corrupted itself or something changed it (maybe a BIOS update by you or even the manufacturer mis-configured something unintentionally).

Let me know if this works. Otherwise, I can try to suggest a few more things to troubleshoot this issue.

What I would suggest would be to completely uninstall all wireless drivers (WiFi AND Bluetooth) and then install the wireless drivers provided on your ASUS's driver page for your particular notebook.

If that doesn't work, then I would recommend completely uninstall all wireless drivers (WiFi AND Bluetooth as before) and then installing the generic drivers from Intel (NOT from Asus's page). To do this, search "Intel Wireless AC 9560 drivers" and click go to the Intel driver download page. You may also have to navigate to that particular driver page from the Intel site itself.

If these two solutions don't work, I'm not sure how to tackle this. I would recommend trying both of them faithfully though.
