Lenovo G500 & G400 (78CNxxWW) CPU Upgrade
#11
Dear mods expert..
I want to upgrade my old laptop, then i ordered an intel core i5-3230M(SR0WY) since its compatible to mine... But it happen the seller doesnt know about how to check CPU name and jst sent it to me.. now this the 2nd time they got the wrong item.
the last item they send was intel core i7-3520M(SR0MT), and i cant use it even it was higher specs because the whitelist on bios. i really dont have any exp on modding bios, since its too complicated. since it was the same generation and same socket. i wanna try to ask bios mod expert to add
Intel core i7-3520M so its compatible and run on my laptop. here some link for the info...
http://ark.intel.com/id/compare/71458,64893,72056,75193
and below on screenshot are my laptop DXDIAG...

Thank you for reading Smile
regards,

Post a screenshot of third (Mainboard) tab of CPU-Z with native CPU.
Did you tried to boot with new CPU? What happened?
P.S. BIOS has microcode for CPUID=0x306A9: version - 15, date - 08/07/2012

Thank you and Sorry i was on vacation that doesnt have an internet, i've returned the i7 CPU. now i bought another one, its intel i5-3230M (SR0WY)...

and it also said "unsupported CPU nm70 ......." even though its exactly the same CPU with Lenovo G400 cpu list, but it still not supported.

Your laptop is based on NM70 chipset. This chipset (as HM70) has well known problem and can't run i3/i5/i7 more then 30 minutes.
Only hub replacing will help. Or you can replace whole motherboard to new one with HM75, HM76 or HM77.
Another solution: put your laptop to sleep state every 25-29 min. This reset a timer. You can use Task Scheduler to do it.
P.S. Read Lenovo G400/G500/G405/G505/G410/G510 Hardware Maintenance Manual. This laptop uses many different motherboards.

that time limit, is it because every 30min the heat of the CPU will automatically shutdown it (Overheat)?
if it is the overheat maybe we can tweak it, since lenovo G400 come with this software called "Energy Management"
one of the feature is making the fan got faster arround 3-5 time ( i dont know maybe 10time since it was very noisy )

and based on this resource, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_chipsets, i find that NM70 has the same TDP(Thermal Design Power) as the other family chipset like HM70,75,76...

i jst read it yerterday, so TDP is the maximum amount of heat generated by a computer chip or component (often the CPU or GPU) that the cooling system in a computer is designed to dissipate in typical operation. Rather than specifying CPU's real power dissipation, TDP serves as the nominal value for designing CPU cooling systems.

if the problem are overheat, maybe i can limit the turbo boost (up to 3.2Ghz)
so its stay on 2.6Ghz(default) or i can add it a bit with serveral tries... (same method like OverClocking)

Please kept teach me master
Thank you for reading ;3

Hello, maybe you have forgotten to lock the security piece in the cpu slot, with a screwdriver.
The processor won't work unless you have done this.
