Laptop came with wrong BIOS, help cross flash right one
#1
recently i bought an used ASUS X509FJ, got some price reduction as seller said "External GPU is not working". I thought its a driver issue so i bought it.
The model on the down sticker said X509FJ which has an MX230 eGPU, but the laptop bios and all information software says it is a X509FB, which has a MX110 GPU. In device manager, there was no eGPU but a device named 3D Video Controller which showed as not working properly. After checking the Hardware ID of the device and checking GPU chip model, its confirmed that it's an MX230. The laptop has other problems like it's really slow to boot up. I tried to update bios using the shown model X509FB, but it doesn't work. It also doesn't take X509FJ bios, in any official way. Overall I am pretty sure it's an FJ model that was somehow flashed to FB model, and I don't know any 3rd party method to cross flash a laptop bios.

Are there any way to flash the FJ bios in my laptop that thinks it's a FB model? I have attached the FJ bios that ASUS provides to flash with EZ flash, in case its needed.

Hi ... I read you story

Is very odd this happen but can happen, I don't know why they sold you one model and put a sticker like was another. Anyway I saw in the ASUS website that there is new bios for FB Model (X509FBAS304.zip) did you tried to update for that version first?

- Did you tried to run the CPU-Z Utility to verify what it says about your motherboard and Bios ?

- When you try to update the Firmwares bellow using the Ez-Flash Utility what message appear to you?
(X509FBAS304.zip and X509FJAS303.zip)

- When you try to update the Firmwares bellow from Windows what message appear to you?
(ASUS_X509FB_304_BIOS_Update.exe and ASUS_X509FJ_303_BIOS_Update.exe)

If isn't possible to flash from inside the BIOS nor from Windows Flash application I suggest you few things, bring the computer to a technical shop and show them the problem or if you have skills to do it you could open the Laptop and flash the CHIP manually using other tools.
