Hello, I have an Acer Aspire V3-731, which I see uses same bios type as V3-771.
I mistakenly updated fw from 1.xx to 2.28, which changed bios setting from legacy to uefi, and locked the bios with a password that I was never given.
I need to get into the bios to make changes, like switching back to legacy instead of uefi, etc.
I first tried modifying the platform.ini and platforms.ini, before starting the fw update in windows. I changed "password=0" to "password=1" so it would overwrite during the update, but after the update hitting F2 still requires a password. Others report a hash that is displayed when entering wrong password three times, but mine says "system will halt."
Another method to reset/change password is installing Acer Empowering Technology & eSettings, but this requires Vista, which will not install. Win 7 almost installs but freezes. The laptop will only boot to uefi disks & flash drives, which these OS's are neither.
I tried downgrading to 1.15 to get back to legacy so I can install Vista. This didnt work, but I read that I needed to downgrade from 2.28 to 2.01 first, which I could probably do but cannot find 2.01. I read this is the only version that a downgrade to 1.XX is possible.
I am able to successfully downgrade 2.28 to 2.23 using the usb flash method using VAG70X64.fd
It is currently using 2.28 with Win 8.1 x64 installed temporarily.
Are you able to provide 2.28 (latest) with all features unlocked, including the bios password requirement removed?
If that is not possible, do you have 2.01 that I could try? Then I could try 1.15.
Any ideas and help are greatly appreciated!
