[Request] Asus P5GD1-VM mod for Woldale multiplier
#1
Hello!
I have Asus P5GD1-VM board with intel 915g chipset, and i tried pin mod Conroes and Wolfdales CPUs to see it it will work.
And surprisingly Celeron 450 (Conroe-L) and Wolfdale based C2D/PD-C works despite non-core2 BIOS and i915 chipset (i have no idea how it even works and detects 2 cores properly!)
Conroe C2D/PD-C stucks at code C2, Wolfdales seems to work fine, but multiplier is stuck at 6x.
And this is what i want to have, BIOS mod for working dual core Conroe will be probably almost impossible, but mod for fixing problem with stuck 6x multiplier is more common and fixable i think.
Link for BIOS: https://www.asus.com/supportonly/p5gd1vm/helpdesk_bios/

In attachments i adding report from CPU-Z and screenshot from CPU-Z

Hello. Have you tried monitoring it under high load?

Yes, and it is still stuck.
I tried throttlestop program and it can change multi when i select speedstep option. So BIOS does not enable speedstep function for some reason. Also, adding microcode to BIOS still gives uCode loading error.

You added the correct one, 1067A?

I can try enabling speedstep in bios if you want.

Yeah, 1067A. Sure, thanks!

Navigate to Advanced - CPU Configuartion. In the mod I unlocked
Intel® SpeedStep™ tech;
CPU Lock Free;
Configure SATA as;
Ratio CMOS Setting;
VID CMOS Setting.

If the SpeedStep setting does not do anything, I can enable SpeedStep feature forcibly.

I tested your mod. I can't enter to BIOS now, it just says "WAIT..." and numlock does not respond.
I still getting uCode loading error, and multi is at 6x in Windows. Looks like BIOS recognizes and not recognizes CPU at same time (because uCode loading error)

Can you recover original BIOS?
Have you any suitable CPU with Prescott core?

Don't know why so, edits seems fine to me. Maybe, the problem appears when you unhide settings that should not be available. This time did not do this.

I updated the archive.

But tried to set MSR1A0 bit 16 instead. According to collected info
Disable Turbo, bit 38
DEP, bit 34 and bit 25
Enhanced SpeedStep Disable, bit 20
Adjacent Cache Line Prefetch Disable, bit 19
PROCHOT# Disable, bit 17
SpeedStep Enable, bit 16
Hardware Prefetch Disable, bit 9

Better ignore this for now, follow DeathBringer's guidance.

I still can boot from FDD/HDD so i can recover BIOS. Yes, i have Prescott core CPU.
Anyway, i tried to flash updated modded BIOS, and i can enter to BIOS, and only difference compared to original is i can't change multi (it didn't changed anything in reality anyway)
Multi is still stuck at 6x.

Also, i discovered with dual-core Conroe CPU (that stucks at C2 code and no POST) it beeps without RAM. So it must get stuck right before POST? Hmm, single-core Conroe works normal. (and it loads added microcode)
