Sony Vaio AW11Z - Support for Quad CPU - Request
#11
(10-30-2024, 01:16 PM)BootlegScarce Wrote: Yes it could be because of the wire as it provides GTLREF voltage to the 2nd die (the extra 2 cores). Does it show up as 2 or 4 cores? Could also be the power adapter too, I believe the FW shipped with a 75w adapter which wouldn't be enough for a core 2 quad, could consider switching it with a higher wattage one like 90w or the 150w charger which is the most powerful. I did actually upgrade another AW (AW37GY) to a QX9300 from the T9600 and the 3dmark06 score was quite low, maybe because I am using a non original charger.
it shows 4 cores in the CPU-Z working together, the power supply is the original of the notebook and has 90w I don't think it's this problem, I did a test on youtube running 1080p 60 fps and it had the same performance as the t9600 running with some crashes being the q9000 quad core shouldn't have these crashes... At least it should run smooth on this youtube resolution...

Q9000 does have very similar single core performance to T9600, so the main improvement is in tasks that use multiple cores like games. I would use h264ify chrome extension for YouTube, it forces YouTube to use the h264 codec which the GPU supports, and is also less stressful on the CPU

I bought the QX9300 and just removed the pins as I did on the q9000 but the computer turns on activates the fans but no image appears, I think I'll have to solder the wires on the motherboard but I don't know where to solder.  You know where I can solder these wires...

For your FW the D22 pin is on test point TP34, which might be under the metal CPU heatsink bracket (held on with some light adhesive), and the other point is resistor R75 or resistor R76, solder a wire to these 2 points and it will work. If you get the wrong resistor just try the other one, I did the same mistake on my AW but nothing bad happened, after soldering to the other resistor it worked.

I took some pictures of the motherboard, the numbers are different from the aw motherboard

Very weird, I can't seem to find any markings of TP34 and the resistors on the motherboard at all, I have a slight guess of where the resistors are but I don't want to mess anything up until I get an FW myself. AW soldering points will only work on the AW, other laptops use different points which will need to be found out through schematics.
