gigabyte bios file not recognised
#1
Hi,

I'm trying to mod a gigabyte AMI BIOS for GA-7ixe4

All info I get suggests this should be easily read and modified by AMIBCP, however if I run AMIBCP_V3.37.exe it is initially looking for a .rom file.

If I set the filter to all files and select 7IXE4.FAd I get a simple error saying it cannot open the file.

Confused

I can't find any info of similar problems. Is this a locked format or what?

Thanks for any prior knowledge or help.

best.

LOL , I tried to attach a file when posting but got an error that the file type was not allowed!

The above problem applies to both F9 and Fab versions shown here:

thanks.

OK, I found amibcp76 (dos only version) can open this bios but it seems to have a rep for [censored] up the bios image if you change any options. Apparently it can extract and add modules ok, but I have not had the nerve to test a flash yet. It does not inspire confidence.

Anyway it will decompress and save to disk , so I've been able to "look" at what it does.

This board has a soldered in chip so some careful surgery is going to be needed for the inevitable rescue mission before I start modding anything.

Oh dear , naughty word filters eh?

good job I don't need to [censored] my mobo to the enclosure.
