Help with a boot image (splash screen) for an e-machine and a DFI Motherboard system
#1
Hello All!
I am in need of some help changing the logo for two bios'.
They are very similar... Both for Intel P4's based on the 865 chip set.
Attached are the actual bios backups.
The one is for a D4362 e-machine.
It has a 2.4GHz P4 800MHz FSB, 1G Ram
I'm not sure of the emachine motherboard specs, but it has an 865G intel chip set on it.
I've not been able to find any updates for this system.

The DFI based system is called DFI bios.
It has a 3.0 P4 800MHz FSB, 1G Ram.
The DFI motherboard is a PS83-BL and has an intel 865PE chipset.

The DFI bios is available at:
83IID318.exe

The 800 x 600 BMP is in the zip file with the bios.

TIA!!

Just for fun, I took a crack at my own request.

Did I update the logo's correctly?

Here is the original listing:

cbrom craig.bin /d
--cut--
11. LOGO BitMap 4B30Ch(300.76K) 076D3h(29.71K) EM_C.BMP
12. LOGO1 ROM 4B30Ch(300.76K) 070E1h(28.22K) EM_P4.BMP
13. LOGO2 ROM 4B30Ch(300.76K) 06F2Ch(27.79K) EM_HT.BMP

Then I updated the image...

cbrom craig.bin /logo ibm.bmp
cbrom craig.bin /logo2 ibm-p4ht.bmp
cbrom craig.bin /logo3 p4ht.bmp

cbrom craig.bin /d
--cut---
11. LOGO BitMap 7560Ch(469.51K) 01179h(4.37K) ibm.bmp
12. LOGO1 ROM 7560Ch(469.51K) 02B0Ah(10.76K) ibm-p4ht.bmp
13. LOGO2 ROM 7560Ch(469.51K) 01BD1h(6.95K) p4ht.bmp

Does that look correct?
Or do I need to flash and find out....

it looks ok but the only way to really try is to flash - would appreciate some screenshots and you sharing your mod if it works Smile

It looks pretty good to me. Big Grin Normally a bad logo insert doesn't kill a board, but better safe than sorry.. If you want me to post a mod that's fine but it looks like you did a fine job Smile

Well, I've been delayed by an odd problem.
The DFI system gets some use around the house, so if I kill a system, it should be the eMachine.
I haven't been able to find an OEM bios posting, so I'm not sure which version of awdflash I should use. Well, there are alot out there, so one of them should work. I'll start with a version that is close to the date on the bios image.
However, this system does not have an option to boot from a USB-HDD. (Just usb-fdd) None of my USB flash drive creations have even been acknowledged at boot time.
My usb flash drives will boot other systems. Oh well.

Now the silly part. This system does have a physical floppy drive. But, I haven't had any physical 1.44 media in years. I haven't had a system with a floppy drive in years. I'll see if I can track down a "diskette" tomorrow.
------
Update - I was able to find a kind person on Craig's list that was going to throw away a quantity of floppy diskette's.

Thanks to this form and the info on it, I was able to update my bios!
Thanks!

The first system is a "collection" of parts from garage sales and Craig's list. The overall system cost was about $10. (Memory is hard to find.)
It earned the name Craig, and yes, it is a complete Frankenstein PC.

So, it needed a facelift...

It is based on a motherboard that came from an eMachine D4362.
The plastic case was scraped and a solid steel one from IBM was used.

When the system boots now, it has the IBM bios splash screen and epa logo that match the case.

Now when my kids use it for facebook think they are using an IBM computer. (really)

The attached zip file has the IFN422 bios for the D4362, bmp's I used, and some photo's of the system at boot time. (CORRUPT SEE BELOW)

Thanks to this form and the info on it, I was able to update my bios!
Thanks!
This place is great!

The DFI system is one that I built a number of years ago and serves up storage for a number of projects.

It sits in my office next to an 84 gun Heritage safe.
It needed some sort of cosmetic update, and I it now has one.

The attached file has the BIOS for DFI PS83-BL. It also has the bmp's I used and a two screen photo's.

Thanks again!!

That is not good....
I'm assuming you mean that the bios image for the "craig" machine was corrupt.
So, I started over. Ran it through cbrom and it looks good to me.
What do you think?
(The new bios image is attached in the zip file)

I did flash the other version, and the system didn't brick. I thought I was doing good!!

PS --THANK YOU FOR CATCHING THAT!!

I see now...
One of the bios did not look right. I thought I had broken something.

So, I've re-zipped both files and they are attached below.
They were zipped with 7 zip v4.65.
