[Solved] Lenovo ThinkCentreM57 6395-AB5 BIOS Core2Duo E8400 Wolfdale E0 CPU Microcode
#1
Question
Hello,

I have Thinkcentre M57 6395-AB5 USFF PC. Decided upgrade CPU from E2160 (M0 Core Stepping) to E8400 (E0 core stepping), as it is stated that E8400 is supported by 6395 system:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-69254

My BIOS update version 54JT22A is the latest, downloaded from there (recently 54JT22A version was removed and left older 54JT21A version):

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.w...MIGR-69695

When I installed E8400, got two beeps and POST error "167 no processor BIOS update found" and FAN goes at full speed (about 5500 rpm all the time). It continues to load windows. In windows environment all seems ok, despite constant full speed fan. Everest shows CPU temperature ~75 degrees C.

I have googled for the info, and found out that my BIOS version needs to be updated with E8400 E0 core stepping CPU microcode. Maybe someone can help me with adding E8400 E0 core stepping CPU microcode?

Intel Dual-Core E2160 (M0 Core Stepping) info:
http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Pentium_Du...2160).html

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 (E0 Core Stepping) info:
http://www.cpu-world.com/sspec/SL/SLB9J.html

There are my Thinkcentre M57 6395 BIOS 54JT22A Files From Winphlash

By the way, file in the archive bios.bak is my BIOS backup file made using winphlash.

Thanks.

Thats odd , Lenovo should have released the bios containing the correct microcode if they have published that the E8400 is officially supported? im confused! hahaha :S

Il hunt down the specific microcode and add it in tomorrow Smile

Try at your own risk! (Flash the bios.bak again , its been modded!)

Good luck!

Yes they add E8400 CPU microcode but just for C0 stepping, not for the E0 stepping. Thanks, I'll try your BIOS update later and write the result.

Hello,

Result is the same with modified BIOS file. The same BIOS boot error "0167 No Processor Bios Update Found" and constant full fan speed.

As I understand I need my BIOS upgrade with CPUID 1067A microcode.

There I found BIOS donor files including CPUID 1067A microcode. Please try to add CPUID 1067A microcode to my BIOS.

Attached Files
.rar   51JY56USA Incl. CPUID 1067A.rar (Size: 821.44 KB / Downloads: 36)

im working with the $image54.usf file now because this is the original unmodded rom (not a backup) which i can open in Phoenix Bios Editor

However , it wont let me edit the microcode module! The bios that you attached has a very big microcode , more than double the size of your own bios and it wont let me replace it

Il keep looking for a way and will post back

The problem that im having is getting my changes to stick , ive got the 10670A microcode and added it in. The microcode file goes from 52kb to 60kb which is fine but whenever i reinsert it and then check the new file , the 52kb one comes back!

Once i figure out how to get the changes to stick it will be a step in the right direction Smile

So I try your latest BIOS mod. Winphlasher does all steps: verify, create backup file etc. but when starts bios reflash procedure all system hangs for a few seconds and reboots. Any ideas?
