Pegatron M2N78-LA BIOS Update Issue
#1
Hi guys,

After updating the BIOS on my crappy HP computer, the CPU fan constantly speeds up once every one or two minutes.
HP wouldn't help, the only way is to order their replacement motherboard, they said.

Do you have any idea about how I can revert the BIOS back to previous version?

This is the link to the download page, my operating system is Windows 7 64.
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...oduct=4006029&

I appreciate any input from you.

BTW, my computer model is p6214y.

Thank you.

PS: I can't find a way to change fan speed in SpeedFan either.

Could you tell me what is needed to go backward?

In the situation that I can't go backward, is there anyway to modify the BIOS to lower the temp threshold for the fans to only run when the computer is really hot?

Thank you.

produced as: Pegatron M2N78-LA
HP called as: Violet-GL8E
also called as: Violet 3

A german HP-engineer told me the following procedure:

Set CLEAR_CMOS and CLEAR_PW jumper to pin 1-2 and push the power button. Hold it till the system is off again (this may take up to 10 seconds). Set the jumpers both back to 2-3 push and hold F10 on the keyboard and switch the system back on to enter BIOS. Disconnect AC-Power, now you are save to reflash the original BIOS. Reconnect AC and flash as you usually do with afu under DOS.

I attached the original BIOS for you...

As I found out it is an AMI-BIOS modified for HP by pioneer!!!

Attached Files
.bin   VIO5.29.bin (Size: 1 MB / Downloads: 934)

Sometimes you just have to try to be sure it is not working...

Thank you so much. I really really appreciate your help. I still have some questions to clear out. The procedure is:
- Set CLEAR_CMOS and CLEAR_PW jumper to pin 1-2. Could you tell me what pin 1-2 is?
- Push and hold the power button for the system to go on and then off again.
- Set the jumpers back to 2-3. (I assume it's the original position.)
- Hold F10, then turn the computer on to enter BIOS.
- Suddenly disconnect AC-Power.
- Reconnect AC, get into DOS then flash with AFU.

Is it everything?

BTW, one more question. My current version of BIOS is 5.22. I don't remember what the original version was.
Your attachment is the version 5.29, which I also found here:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softw...pv-73127-1
I seems to fix a problem w/ Vista. Is it okay if I just flash it to 5.29 anyway?

Thank you MrTangoWhisky.

I asked HP and they send this BIOS to me. They told me it solves some problems with VISTA/7 and its driver handlings and makes the system even more stable after adding processor-support in the 5.25. Your original-BIOS should've been the 5.16 or 5.19 wich were the stock-versions on that motherboard.

As you can see here the jumpers are on the lower right side. On that page you can also see, how to set the jumpers (just scroll a bit down)

Sorry for being not the right way, you have to set the jumpers to 2-3 to reset all settings and the 5.23 solves something with the ACPI and sensor readouts, so I believe this would solve your problem...

Is there anyway that we could get the 5.119 version?

Thank you so much for helping me a lot.

PS: I can't find anywhere to download AFU. Could you give me a link to the program?
Can I use the UniFlash program in Hiren Boot CD?

You are fantastic! Repped you for being awesome.
How could you find the 5.16 and 5.08? I couldn't search for it. Big Grin

For me, I would always prefer the latest version, then I'll give 5.29 a try. But also because of this, HP refused to help my although I'm in my warranty period. They said I shouldn't have been updated the BIOS since I didn't encounter any problem.

Anyway, finals are coming, I'll let you know the result when I have time to fix this.

Thank you again for saving me and my computer.

HP's own management tools sometimes prefer to make an update of your BIOS! I found the older versions by searching for the product number in HP's public FTP archive... Wink
Poorly there is no real BIN-file inside these older .exe's as it was in the latest 5.29...

Sometimes you just have to try to be sure it is not working...
