The laptop powers on but I get a black screen.
ok, I examined the latest bios for Asus F8VA (F8VaAS.209) it only support two Ati cards and one Nvidia (8600m gt)...
You need to mod the bios by inserting a 9700m gt vga rom into it, sacrificing one vga support (for space problem)...I think that is ok deleting 8600m, ok?
If u wont I can you give a modded bios, but if you desire to mod your bios personally I can you explain the procedure...
I hope to be you of help.
Excuse me for my bad english.
I'm not sure how to mod the BIOS. If you could mod it for me I would appreciate it. But It would be nice to know how to do it as well.
Ok I figured out how to get the VGA rom extracted and replaced Nvidia Device Id was 10DE:064A for 9700m GT vga.rom.
My laptop now boots, and I am able to load windows, but now I cant get the device drivers to install.
Any help?

Hmmm, did i just fry my notebooks power supply?
Now it wont boot at all, with either my ati 3650 or the 9700m gt.
Guess I'll have to send it for warranty... what a bummer man, right after I got the darn thing to boot with the 9700m.
mmmm...do you think that the problem is the power supply or the mainboard?...because the ps can be bought with few money...
About driver you must to installa the laptopvideo2go driver with modified .inf

When you try to switch on your laptop, what exactly happens?
Also, did it stop working suddenly even though you have had the power supply
plugged in? If so, the battery was probably full, but it switched off, suggesting
it might be something inside the laptop.
I would try to test the voltage output from the power supply, also try booting with
a card that previously worked (ATI probably), only 1 stick of ram, and CD drive, hard
drive removed etc!
fsdude : modded BIOS will arrive after Christmas, but before New Year (have been away for ages
for various reasons - sorry about that!)
ASUS A8JR : 3GB Ram, Nvidia 9650M GT 1GB Graphics (upgraded from 512MB Go7700 with custom BIOS). T7200CPU (with faster FSB and clock) - plug&play!
Apple Macbook Pro - top spec as of Mid 2012 - used it for a while, back to my ASUS as it as so much more flexible and usable!![/color]

Ok... First off, I just wanted to thank everyone who replied, all of you have been so helpful.
Second, I got my laptop to boot now... I did what Jommoner stated, and pulled a stick of ram, pulled the HDD, and reinstalled to the 3650.
The machine now boots.... I'm really confused now. LoL
I wonder is there a way to clear the cmos on a laptop, I usually do that for a desktop MoBo when I reflash the bios.
I'm just out of my element here.
Confused on what to do next... I'll think i'll mess around with the ram, I believe that may be the cause?

Ok this is really strange, the laptop now boots with both sticks of memory installed, and the HDD with the 3650. When I power on with the 9700m GT.
The laptop powers on but now I get a black screen, almost as if I didnt flash the modded bios, same behavior as before. This is strange.

Strange....!!!! -___-'
Have you re-flash the bios again?
It's possible that the laptop power supply is not able to provide the necessary energy...9700m gt is more avid current consumption than your old Ati card...
@ jommoner
Do you think that my problem (fan always @100% full speed after vga upgrade 9650m gt -> 9700m gt) is resolvable?!?
All temps are ok...is not a heat problem...

I might have to agree with you zenith, the machine boots i get bios post beeb, however with the 9700m GT it goes into an infinite loop for post.
I did try reflashing the bios, so I'm thinking zenith is correct in the laptop not being able to supply the power neccesary.
Is there a way to resolve this?

I'm not sure but the slot MXM II should provide to supply the power necessary FOR EVERY MXM II CARD!
So, I think you must to ensure for following things:
1. The card work correctly (if u can, u try to mount the card into another laptop to verify it work)
2. You must be sure that the card is correctly pulled on and also the heatsink and memory pads, to prevent overheat and consequent reboot.
For me is strange to think that the laptop are not able to supply the necessary power at standard MXM II slot...
I attend your news!

Guess I'll just return it, I got it on ebay.
No way for me to check if the card is good though (I don't have a spare laptop).

Hi there and greetings to all notebook modders
I have been following these boards with interest as I am in the market for a new&improved video card for my Asus A8JS.
I have found from browsing various sites that it is possible to purchase these various cards in lots of 10 for example at a reduced cost.
My question for jommoner and everyone else is:- Do we have enough people interested to bulk buy a particular video card, and if so is it possible to get warranty cover for everyone involved?
Obviously it would need to be MXM II
I am interested in the GF 9650 GT or the Ati HD 4650, but would welcome suggestions.
I just thought I would put this out there for people to consider.
Merry Christmas to all
