Acer Aspire E380 R01-C0 With Unlocked Overclocking Options
Chances are you have the jumper on your motherboard or in your BIOS settings that has BIOS-Write protection still on. Check there first please.

Thanks,
TheWiz

The Jumper on the MoBoard is between the IDE cable and the bios chip itself. The jumper is marked in very fine print.

What is the maximum size hdd recognized by the R01-C0 original bios? I was wondering as I may make this board into a media server using the Nvidea (sp) Raid. I was hoping the 2Tb drives as that would give me 4Tb in a Raid 0+1.

Does the modded bios allow for bigger Hdd than the original? (if the original does not support 2Tb)
Thank
Keb

I just tried a 1.5Gb-HDD on my MCP61PM-AM and it worked fine, so maybe 2Gb-HDD should also do their work!

Sometimes you just have to try to be sure it is not working...

Hi guys, first time posting here. Awesome service u guys are providing here. Anyway, I was wondering if the bios package in the first post is for SLIC 2.1. And if it isn't, could someone help me with a SLIC 2.1 bios package?

Second of all I'm also looking to upgrade a few things in this system.. initially the RAM from 2x1GB to 4x1GB. Will be using surplus memory from another system i just upgraded. Will this new bios recognize 4x1GB of DDR2 800MHz (6-6-6-18) and run them at that rated speed? I might be upgrading my other system to a GTX570 soon so i might be able to grab the Dell 8800GT from that and put it in this system. I'm assuming I'd have to upgrade the Acer's stock PSU? I might also want to upgrade the CPU eventually but 65W TDP's are rare... and expensive. Post #28 by TangoWhisky seems to suggest that 95W TDP AMD's are unstable in this system... however, if the system is powered by a higher-rated PSU will this instability disappear or is that problem all to do with the chipset and a diff PSU wouldn't matter? Anyway here are my system specs (Acer Aspire E380-ED421A):

# Motherboard Name: Acer EM61SM/EM61PM
# Motherboard Chipset: Nvidia MCP61 Rev. A2
# BIOS brand: Phoenix technologies, LTD
# BIOS version: R01-B1
# BIOS date: 12/29/2006
# Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+

Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I'm working with 4x2Gb of RAM without problem. I'm using a NVidia GT250 GX2 without problem. The GTX570 power consumption may be a little higher and this could be a problem. I'm using a 65W Phenom X4 9500 without problem. My PSU is a 750W Coolermaster and even with this PSU an instable system is guaranteed above 89W TDP... There were a few engeneering samples using 89W and I was lucky to get one for testing. After some testings I blew some of my mainboards capacitors and replaced them by even stronger ones. Thus I was even able to test with 125W and 95W proc's but with no luck.

Updating PSU is necessary anyways. You should try the graphics first. RAM is a goodie without problems when you updated BIOS with our special. Though it is the same with the proc...

Good luck and merry Christmas!

@MrTangoWhisky
Which capacitors did you replace and what did you replace them with? If possible please specify brand/type as well as voltage/capacitance (uF).

Is it true that you succeeded in making an Athlon II X2 245 run with your modified E380 board?

Is there any way i can get this to work? i did some research and people had got this processor to work on this mother board but it is not on the specifications. If it does work does it work up to full expectations?

You want to use an AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+ on an MCP61PM-HM?
At first I think you are propably able to ask that question in an existing thread containing the related posts. I moved it for you... Wink
At second there is a physical limitation of this board and it's very similar brothers, the TDP you can use to have a working stable system is below 89W...
As you surely can find out by yourself the Athlon 64 X2 5000+ is built in several different versions, from 65W TDP up to 125W TDP!!! I believe the 5600+ is almost the same thing except the 65W-version... So you just need to flash one of our proven BIOSes for that board and use one of the "below-89W-TDP-processors" and everything will be fine!
I hope this helps a bit! Good luck!

Hello all. TotalNoob here.

I have the mcp61pm-am rev. 1.0a motherboard that came in my Acer e380.
I have successfully flashed it with the 613z_19.bin. To my complete surprise, this board allowed me to install 8gb of ddr2 RAM and has been doing great, so I am trying hard to keep it... with your help.

So... on to the problems...

As a total noob, I kept the little red jumper on on my motherboard when I flashed and when I tried to install my new Phenom II 910e (65w) X4.

The flash took, like I said, but when I went to install the Phenom, it didn't post. I had to reinstall my 4400.

Do I need to remove the little red jumper, or move it, to make the board take the Phenom?

Secondly, I am having the same problem as others with my settings not saving when I try to overclock.

Since everyone has been saying this bios is 100% effective, I realize I probably am doing something wrong.

Thanks again in advance for any and all suggestions.

TotalNoob
