Key scancode to get into BIOS
#1
Hi there!

I think I´m gonna love this forum. I wanted to get in touch with BIOS experts for a long long time. Smile

Situation: Gateway Connected Touch Pad (GCTP) released Y2K (ten years ago Smile

Bios: AWARD. Cpu: Transmeta Crusoe

Situation: Manufacturer (Gateway) LOCKED the bios. It is imposible to get into the BIOS. No matter what key you try.

Suspicion: Gateway must ave changed the key scancode that the program is listening for, changing from the key scancode for F1 etc to something that no normal keyboard produces (say, FF FF).

Question: is the key scancode to get into the menu placed always at the same (fixed) location in the bios ROM?. How difficult would it be to find what key scancode is it expecting, and change it to something normal, so that I´m finally able to get into the bios?.

Question #2: Failing the above... is there a way to CHANGE THE BOOT ORDER by editing the CMOS memory from dos/windows (the machine can only comfortably run up to win98SE), without actually getting into the BIOS menus? with which utility?

Thanks for the help. I guess two questions is more than enough for the first post. Smile
