Asus EeePC 1201T - unlock memory setting
#1
Question
Hi,
I just installed the new DDR800 memory, but I can adjust the frequency and timing. The computer still stubbornly goes on the old settings of the original memory - DDR667. Confused
Please help.
Is it possible to unlock this and other settings in the BIOS??

According to this: http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/K8/AMD-Ath...AX4DX.html

The CPU doesn't support DDR2-800 mode. You have another info?

Well, AMD Athlon Neo MV-40 based on K8 architecture and newer K8 support DDR-800. North Bridge AMD RS780M tell me that fully support DDR-800 memory. Some notebook with AMD Athlon Neo MV-40 have got DDR-800 memory (like Fujitsu LIFEBOOK P3010; Toshiba Satellite T115D-S1120 and first version of my notebook Asus EeePC 1201T too).
I don't know why would AMD abolishing the DDR-800 support on this processor? Energy saving? Huh
I could not find enough information. Undecided
I think that the BIOS is from the manufacturer set to maximum of 320MHz (not 333MHz) but I'm not sure. The settings in the BIOS are limited to time&date and boot drive options.

AMD RS780M is not the north bridge but the chipset. Show me any notebook review where I can see that an Athlon Neo MV-40 does support DDR2-800 memory mode. Otherwise, it's just a notebook with an installed DDR2-800 staying silent about the actual memory mode.
Yes, a part of the limitation reasons is the energy saving.

As for the last - it's actually set to 333 but the architecture of K8 integrated memory controller rounds the frequency to the closest integer memory divider that is not higher than rated limit.

Yeah, you're probably right. My mistake was to believe that if the DDR-800 is installed in some laptops, it must necessarily run at 400MHz. I did not find any review that would support my belief.

So, here is my another question - is possible to make available additional settings in my BIOS, such as memory timings, setting FSB frequency, core voltage, etc.?

Can't promise you FSB frequency since it's rarely present on AMD systems. But hey, your BIOS looks very promising! Lots of interesting stuff. Can't promise that any of them will work when unlocked - to check this will be your task. Stay tuned.

No problem - I really like to experimenting. Wink
Thank you a lot. Smile

Can you make a list of make a photo of what you have currently in the IDE configuration section? Do you have all these things like SATA3, 6, Third IDE slave, fourth IDE slave? I'm just looking for menu items that I could replace. Your netbook obviously has only one HDD, other menu items aren't necessary.

Yeah, I have got only one HDD as SATA. I take photo in moment...
The IDE section is quite poor, as everything in the BIOS. Dodgy

Any update on the mod? The current BIOS is still v0320.
I too would also very much like this feature, instead of having to set the memory timings after Windows load (using AMD OverDrive v3.2.3.0457).

BTW thanks in advance for the effort. Smile
