I prefer to use the utility within the BIOS to flash, in this case "EZ Flash II", as oppossed to DOS software to flash.
I read somewhere that one method of flashing doesn't erase some (boot?) sector of the BIOS and as a result is a little safe. I would apprciate it if someone could clarify this.
Place BIOS file onto USB stick (might be something like ASUS1204.ROM).
Restart the computer.
Press "Del" on your keybaord (Delete) to enter the BIOS.
Head to the top right of the screen and click "Exit/Advanced Mode"
Click "Advanced Mode" on the window that opens
Click the "Tools" tab towards the top right.
Click "ASUS EZ Flash Utility". The utility will load and may refresh the screen.
Once in you will be presented with a screen that contains two columns. The left/first column contains your drives and partitions. THe right contains the *.rom files in the selected partition.
Select the corect drive/partition if the utility hasn't done so already.
The *.rom file should show up in the right hand column e.g. ASUS1204.ROM
Double-click the new BIOS file
Confirm you want to flash the BIOS
It will proceed with flashing the BIOS, there will be a progress bar to update you with how much progress it has made.
DO NOT TURN OFF THE COMPUTER AT THIS STAGE (no matter how long it takes)
You will be notified once it's complete
Confirm and it'll restart itself
You may wish to go back into the BIOS to re-apply any settings as it will most likely have reverted back to defaults.
Save changes and exit.
You have successfully updated your BIOS
All this information is available in the manual. Albeit not in micro steps but suficient to help you do it. Not only using EZ Flash, but over the internet and using DOS based flashing (BUPDATER). If you have any questions feel free to ask.
