[solved] ASUS 1000HE - Enable AHCI mode in BIOS - Requested, and now ENABLED !!! =D
#1
Hi everybody. I have been looking through many web forums for a way to obtain access to an AHCI mode for my ASUS 1000HE.

From what I have read, there were at least 2 versions of the 1000HE manufactured. 1 version = AHCI in bios, 1 version = no AHCI in BIOS. I have already flashed my BIOS to the newest available 1000HE BIOS on the ASUS site, and there is no AHCI mode available anywhere (compared it to a friend's ASUS netbook BIOS... their netbook is ASUS but a different model... I am 100% sure that I do not have this option available anywhere in my current BIOS). I have read that the chipset which the 1000HE uses should support AHCI mode, and it is unclear why some 1000HE netbooks have this enabled, while some do not.

I saw that modifications to a BIOS were made, and AHCI mode was enabled in the 1000H model in this thread:
http://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-Pr...eePC-1000H
I was hoping somebody would have the know how (which I admit I do NOT have) to make this possible on the 1000HE.

I have found several forums with modification talk of the 1000HE Super Hybrid Engine (SHE), but nothing for enabling AHCI on this particular netbook. Just purchased a new SSD a few days ago and learned about this issue. It's fast now, but I'm sure I'll get better performance with AHCI enabled.

Please let me know what, if anything, you'd need me to post.

Maybe somebody with an up-to-date BIOS of the ASUS 1000HE and AHCI enabled in their BIOS can upload their BIOS, and it can be compared to my 1000HE non-AHCI BIOS? Would this work?

Thanks so much in advance! =D

I doubt there are two versions of the netbook itself. From what I've checked, the oldest BIOS version has the AHCI option hidden. All newer have it enabled. Grab and flash the latest BIOS version, 1104 and enjoy AHCI in IDE configuration menu (check enhanced mode, then you'll see AHCI under that menu).

If it won't work - show the pics of mentioned menu after BIOS update.

Hi Antinomy, thank you for the reply =D

Right now I can not do it, but will try to find time tomorrow (Thursday) to take pictures. Here is a discussion that is pretty much my same problem:
http://forum.eeeuser.com/viewtopic.php?id=79829
But that thread died off I think due to arguments between 1000HE users, debating the AHCI issue (having vs not having AHCI option).

For some reason even with the newest 1104 BIOS, there is no available AHCI mode (for me).

I flashed BIOS to the newest BIOS before I posted to this forum in hopes it would unhide the AHCI option. The only additional option I received was for some type of quick boot option. All of the hard drive options remained the same as the BIOS that was already in place... no Enhanced mode.

I just received a message from another person that I emailed from another forum that did the SHE overclock on his 1000HE. I asked him in email about if his BIOS has AHCI, and he as well does not have the AHCI option.
http://forum.eeeuser.com/viewtopic.php?id=78694&p=4
(the very last post, user = miket... ).

I'll try to post the pictures tomorrow and we'll go from there =D

I look forward to having full use of my netbook's SSD, and I'm sure others will benefit too that have since given up on trying to accomplish this.

Now I see. There's a dirty-nasty trigger bit. It hides the menu using a certain trigger and unhides depending on... something I can't tell due to current lack of knowledge. Foretunately, a BIOS mod will help in this case.

Use the following BIOS if an update won't help.

Just saw you posted this and HAD to try it.

.... result....

SUCCESS!!!!!!!!!!!

AHCI now works on my 1000HE !!!! (for those of us that do not have AHCI in our BIOS)

For some reason though the liveupdate by ASUS kept failing to connect to the server (which caused the program itself to not start up), so I had to rename the rom file to 1000HE.ROM and put it on a FAT32 usb drive (would not work on NTFS formatted usb drive), reboot, then Alt+F2 to begin the BIOS flash at the time of the BIOS post screen.

Before booting through to windows with AHCI enabled, I followed these instructions to enable AHCI in Win7 through Regedit (to prepare for the next booting in to Windows with AHCI enabled through the BIOS):
http://www.ithinkdiff.com/how-to-enable-...tallation/

Thank you so much, you are awesome!!!

Big Grin

WEI (however reliable it is? it's all I had to use on the netbook as it's a new clean install) went from 6.5 to 6.7, but the boot time to being usable is noticeably faster. I had ran it several times prior to AHCI and it would never change from 6.5 HD score. Also programs are loading noticeably faster now too. =D

I remember on my Desktop that I had about similar WEI scores before doing a clean install with AHCI enabled in the BIOS, and the scores shot up quite a bit more (but I don't have time to do another full install for a while to test it out).

Just in case anybody else needs this I'll type some key words in case they google it.

Key words: Enable AHCI 1000HE BIOS

I'm really glad to hear that it worked out. Smile

I'm thinking that I have to change my super moderator status to "Master of AHCI" or whatever Big Grin quite a bunch of those, maybe worth a whole section.

Hahaha, indeed.

You are the Master of AHCI Unlocking. Now if only there were a way to enable control over ram timings (upgraded to a 2GB stick of 5-5-5-15 DDR2 6400, and it's running at 533 and not 667 nor 800... but I don't think the board can hit 800), but hey, I'm way more than happy to have the AHCI!!!! =D

Wish I could give you more than 1 rep!
Thanks again!

As for memory divider - 945GM (the chipset you have) can only clock memory 1:2 from FSB frequency. This means - want to overclock the memory, overclock the bus. The timings can be changed using Memset for example.

Thanks for the Memset suggestion. I've just started reading on it. Will try it out when I have a chance.
