Asus A8M2N-LA/HP NodusM-GL8E: CPU Upgrade

Ive taken all the microcode out of the 5005 Beta Bios and inserted it into the HP Bios and updated the AGESA module.

I have an HP a1730n that starts to run slow for some new multitask apps I am running. Changing an Athlon 64 X2 5000+ for an Athlon (or Phenom) II X4 will be less expensive and time consuming than buying a new mb+CPU and reinstalling everything.

I have already upgraded to Windows 7 64 bits and my motherboard is the one of this thread.

Did anyone tried the mod given by 1234s282 ?

Thx

You can upgrade up to an Athlon 64 X2 6400+ with no issues and using the factory bios. If you are not using bios 5.07 the processor might show up as "unknown" but will still function correctly. Any cpu's past the Athlon 64 X2 your best bet is to try this bios-mod. Unfortunately I am having unrelated computer problems and have not tried this mod yet and I am leaving for 5 months so I won't be trying it anytime soon.

Hello i am just confirming that this BIOS does work and will not mess up your motherboard it may disable on-board video so make sure to have a pcie video-card on hand if it does tested with a 5000+ Brisbane so I haven't tried any quads yet but now Brisbane's work

i do have only one question about this bios is it possible to add opteron support as i have a 3 or 4 opteron 1389s laying around

I tried your BIOS but I got an error (9998) Your system does not meet the minimum requirements.
This is the same error I got trying the HP (s35159) BIOS update. It was for 32bit vista and I am running 64bit Win7. Is there a work around to get the BIOS to Update? I'm running 3.10 from 2006 and it does not even have the Sata transfer rates. I'm stuck at UDMA 5 on a Sata 3.0 drive.

Hello there.

Since it's an Hp motherboard and BIOS, I'm pretty sure overclocking won't be possible.

But, I just upgraded a1700n from a 3800+ processor to a 5600+ processor and it is working very nicely. The processor cost me about $32 on Ebay.

If you go this route, make sure you get a 90nm processor, not the 65nm.

Hi 1234s282,

I know this is an old post but did you ever investigate the RAID limitation as described above ? I also have the a8m2n-la (HP m7750n) and swapped the HD for a SSD but I can't enable the AHCI mode which is kind of a waste... Sad

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Martin

So about a month ago I returned to the states after being gone for about a year and a half and am ready to continue with this project. I know this is an old thread but maybe it will get some attention....if not I will start a new one Tongue

Ok so I flashed the modded bios 1234 provided and have been running it for a couple days now with no issues but on the same 6400+ cpu I was using on the stock bios. The modded bios came from using the beta bios from the ASUS m2npv motherboard. The fastest cpu officially supported in the bios was the Phenom II X4 945. I was browsing around here and found a thread for the m2npv where they were trying to get Phenom II X6 support but not sure if that was ever successful or not.

Ultimately I'd like to run the Phenom II X6 1065T if I can and try to stretch out the usefulness of this rig for another year or so. So can someone insert the microcode for the X6s and upgrade the AGESA? If not I'll just settle for the X4 945, still a great improvement over my current cpu.

I cannot answer your quefstion but have one of my own.
You indicate that you have been running with the mod for a few days and no problems. Somewhere, in this thread someone indicated a disabling of on board video. Was your onboard video disabled or are you using an add on card.

I am currently using on board video as my video card died and is currently being rma'd. I believe there are a few different versions of the board and the ones that only have two ram slots and sata ports will lose on board video while the boards that have 4 ram slots and sata ports are not disabled.

I have no problem kicking in some cash to whomever can get me X6 support. I know I should probably just update my motherboard so I can get a more current CPU but then I'd also have to buy different memory and I might as well get a new case, power supply, gpu, more fans, etc. and I'd rather just make the most of what I have.

Well after 6 weeks and no support and I am giving up. For reference in case anyone does find this thread and decided to do something with it here are the issues. For the AM3 cpus the board cannot handle anything over 95w so the Phenom II X6 1065t is the best you can hope for. The current modded bios goes up to the Phenom II X4 945 so the microcode and AGESA needs to be updated. Secondly the SATA II transfer speed is bios locked at SATA I and needs to be fixed. Lastly there are only three "overclocking" functions in the bios that need to be unlocked. They are ram voltage (1.8 or 1.9v), the FSB (200 to 400MHz in 1 MHz increments), and the cpu multiplier which is really kind of useless if you are using AM3 cpus because none of them would work in the mobo anyway because of the 95w tdp restriction.

Well I went ahead and ordered the Phenom II x4 945 which is the fastest cpu on the support list and it arrived today. Unfortunately the computer will not post; no beeps, no video, fans on high. Tried removing all but one stick of ram, reset cmos battery, re-installing cpu and nothing worked. Put old 6400+ cpu back in and everything worked fine. Not sure why modded bios wouldn't work with the 945 but regardless it doesn't. I'll hold on to it for few days just in case someone has any suggestions or can rework the bios again, otherwise I'll return it and build a new rig Sad
