bios bricked on a d900f np9280

bios was updating and power got cut, now brick. now i read about the pheonix recovery and presumably it works on a x7200, the d900f has almost the same exact identical layout, i'm trying to figure out what keypress such as fn+B or win+B could work to enable to run the recovery, other alternatives would also be great, re soldering the rom chip, would take me maybe 1-2 months away.


by the way sager has .iso bios, in phoenix recovery they state to rename it to bios.wph, would the recovery tool understand if i renamed biosname.iso > bios.wph

the file is D9F_09CS.LS3 which i'm renaming to bios.wph, going to attempt some more recovery at moment, i managed to reset the battery on the board

i tried fn+esc, fn+b, fn+f, fn+r, win+esc, win+b, win+f, win+r, with the phoenix recovery via usb, i hear some people mention it didnt work for them via usb flash drive but using a usb floppy drive actually helped, however my bios file is larger then a 1.44mb standard floppy, you would think a laaptop like this only 1-2 years old has no phoenix bios recovery support, desoldering the rom is the last resort and i wont be able to do for a while.

928bv09cs.zip is the name of the bios, just incase anybody wants to try to edit it and see if there's a different key press, it was erasing the block's then power cut thats it

the phoenix bios is more than 2 mb, doesn't fit floppy driver.
but it should be recovered proper usb driver or pen driver something.

try on other usb drivers, not cheapest one.
cheapest usb driver, sometimes, it doesn't recognized.

sometimes, ctrl+home(ami bios keypress) is working on phoenix recovery.

zip contains .iso image, but it's invisible when loaded regularly, you have to use ultraiso > load image > save boot file > *restart ultra iso > open boot file > and you can extract the .ls3 file

hopefully that might assist in finding the phoenix recovery key press, i'm going to try 3 different usb's again as well as ctrl+home, hopefully some luck. do you personally believe that phoenix recovery does exist on the laptop as well as other sager latpops, i've never ever heard of phoenix recovery on sagers laptops before, i've tried looking for any model and found nothing.

floppy driver is old and slow, so it can noticed that it is try to read from floppy drive with correct keypress.

but usb driver responds quickly, so it is difficult to make sure that the keypress is correct or not.

so if you want to know correct keypress, you need a floppy driver.
just use usb floppy driver with any of floppy without bios.wph(d9f_09cs.ls3) with keypress.

as I have experienced, if it try to read usb floppy driver with correct keypress, it can be recovered by phoenix recovery, without any specific maker.

if it fails to read floppy, it might be difference keypress, memory replacement or clean refit.

when you make phoenix recovery disk, try with phlash16.exe(ph1691.exe) from the image and bios.wph(d9f_09cs.ls3)

i'm going to try this later on tonight i got few methods and tests to go through in hopes of recovering the bios, but let me ask you have you ever used any sager/clevo based laptops and successfully had phoenix bios recovery work?

edit: so your saying i should get a USB floppy drive and setup phoenix recovery on it except for the .ls3 file to see if the light is blinking when i attempt keypress right? since recent laptops don't come with floppys.

what kind of usb floppy drive would you recommend that is known to be operational with most systems, i don't want to buy some cheap crap.

just to try usb floppy drive with any of floppy disk
it will try to read floppy drive to recover process, if hardwares have fine.(cpu, memory, graphic card, etc...)

I don't know sager/clevo, but it might be rebranded oem, chinese maker.
Even same maker, every laptop have to be use different phlash16.exe version for phoenix crisis recovery.

any of usb floppy driver might be fine.

phoenix crisis disk should make once, after then, it should be not copy & paste on floppy disk.
To make different phlash16.exe version, you have to make phoenix crisis disk again.

I guess that crisis disk booting process should be start 0 sector on floppy disk for phlash16.exe, that means, if it has copy & paste on floppy disk, the phlash16.exe has replaced other sector, then it can't be access booting crisis disk.

the floppy disk method for your laptop is for the make sure the correct keypress only.
if it is correct keypress and doesn't problem on your laptop, you don't need it.
you need just usb flash driver with phoenix crisis disk.
