Quote:xxxlalala : if you just search for 'thermal pads', you should find what you need. They are difficult to get hold of, though. I got these ones once:
http://www.mxm-upgrade.com/Thermal.html
they are probably the best you can buy. If you find a computer store that services laptops nearby they might have some that are cheaper. You can also reuse the old thermal pads if they aren't too badly damaged. To be honest, if you *need* the laptop, and the thermal pads are a bit damaged but half-OK, you could put them back, use the laptop, but just *avoid using any 3D* games or business presentations, and you would be fine for a while!.
Let me know if you need any more advice!
of course i googled, but i could not find exactly how big ( height) they have to be. i already bought the wrong one and payd 8€ thatswhy i just wanted to make sure.
the gap looks a little bigger than 1mm to me but i dont habe a realy good vision with these things. do you think any 1mm pad will do it ?
is there any cheaper solution, or will one 20mmx20mm pad be enough for 4 ram modules, i dont have the notebook in front of me and i think you know the sizes pretty good that is why im asking.
do you think this will do it too ?

Hi, I got an A8Js and I've fried 2 Nvidia Go 7700 (I change the second one using zalman ZM-STG1 thermal grease), and this time I would like to try with an ATI x1700 (from an A8Jp) to recover my laptop and not spend so much money, because I use it now only for internet.
Do you think I would need to mod the BIOS?? (actually got BIOS Ver: A8JsvAS.213).
Thanks in advance.

Hi
My laptops (Asus A8Js) motherboard and graphics card are broken, at least I think so. If I use my old motherboard with graphics card, it gives white screen with some lines (also external monitor is scrambled). Without it motherboard doesn't beep. I bought another motherboard which beeps (3 beeps per second continuously) even if graphics card is installed, so it (graphics card) seems to be also broken... If you guys think otherwise, let me know.
I was thinking about buying Asus GeForce 9600 GS (MXM type II reversed, from ebay) because it's actually cheaper than Go 7700 and that would be quite decent upgrade for me anyway. Now I need a bios for it and I must get it flashed. Can I do it without a BIOS chip programmer? If not I guess I must find somebody to do that part for me (replacing the
chip with socket and reprogramming new(/old?) chip).
Edit: Things have improved. Now I can have my BIOS flashed but I still need the file. I chosed GeForce 9500M GS (not 9600M GS), because it's cheapest option and still an upgrade. So I'd like to have bios with support for 9500M GS and Go 7700. Could you possibly make me one?
Edit: Well, it seems that nice ebay guys are making me one, so case closed.

Hello,
I currently have an Asus M50VM-B1 and I've been thinking about upgrading the video card. The laptop comes with a 9600M GS 1 GB and I am looking to install a 9800M GS (taken from another Asus laptop). What do you guys think? Is it doable? BIOS modifications need to be done? If so, where should I start?

I have the same situation as yours. I can only get 9500m from yahoo auction in Taiwan, no 9650 ,and the seller is not nice enough to send me a modded BIOS.
So would you help me out ,please

Hi. I was wondering if the Nvidia GT 220m would work with the A8JS. I am buying one of these laptops for a cheap price, because of a bad video card. (Everything else works, but the video card has the famous green lines) I am looking at video cards to use, and the 220m GT seems like the best one for me. (Heavy gamer, programmer, video editor, GPU extensive programs). I found one for fairly cheap, and I do have a few pictures.

It does say that it is an asus GPU, But I wanted to make sure before buying it.
Just a tip, for anyone looking for a 9650m GT card for their A8JS, I did some searching and found a site selling them new for pretty cheap. ATM, they are selling for about US $184, which is better than the $300 ebay deals. It is reverse MXM, with 1GB dedicated ram. It's a pretty good find.

Uhm. Well although I got a new BIOS for my Asus, it didn't work. It was supposed to work on Asus A8Js, with Nvidia's GeForce Go 7700 (512MB) and GeForce 9500M (512MB) cards. If I can't get my original card working, I need that kind of BIOS. 9650M is way too expensive for me, and it also will have customs and taxes which makes it even more expensive. So maybe 9500M could be considered as upgrade option and I could test that one (if my graphics card won't work). Now it just need a BIOS.
