Gateway nv73a Bios Unlock
#1
I got the Phoenix BIOS ROM from Gateway's site, downloaded PBE, and started messing around in the emulated menu. I noticed several options that weren't actually present in my bios like switchable graphics (I would LOVE to have this enabled) and the entire AMD tab. I was hoping it wouldn't be that difficult to unlock these but as I've looked around on this forum I've gathered that not many know how to do so. I'd really love to know how but I'd settle for someone helping me unlock this BIOS.

Please / Thanks!

BIOS Files

P.S. You guys are awesome, so polite and even apologetic about how long it takes when you're doing all of us a great service!

GOOD NEWS! And bad news... But mostly good Tongue

The bios works and many options are available that weren't there before! Unfortunately, switchable graphics isn't among them and most of them are just debug options.

Bad news, I now know why switchable graphics isn't available. Setting the bios option to use integrated GPU = blank screen / effectively bricked laptop. I'm guessing the integrated GPU's outputs aren't even wired to anything. The modded bios had F12 disabled by default. Since I didn't know this I tried about a hundred times to boot my pen drive with F12. After about an hour of failing to boot I removed all other drives from the computer and booted it just fine. Re-ran the flash, from memory since I had no display, thus re-enabling my dedicated GPU and getting my laptop working again. The only bad thing is that I have a test in the morning. Confused

Good news! It was fun Tongue And it let me enable the option that lets me use the AMD overdrive utility with the computer.

Moral of the story, don't do a modded bios flash the night before a 316 test Wink

Well I'm off to bed, thanks so much for the modded bios! If you ever have time to explain I'd love to know how you did it. I'm graduating with a B.S. in computer engineering at the end of the month, so I'm pretty sure I could understand.

THANKS AGAIN! Big Grin

well , in fact i will graduate with a B.S in computer engineering after 4 years or may be more Big Grin Big Grin

i hope that every thing is alright after your test Smile

concerning the modified bios , you should see these options inside the advanced NB options menu

and these options inside the internal graphics menu

it`s simple that if you don`t see any of these options , the notebook didn`t support this option.
however , i can show any hidden option but your note book may not boot after adjusting it.

tell me if you don`t see any of these options.
