Hey there TheWiz. This is my first post here and just wanted to thank you and your testers for this ABIT bios. I have successfully flashed my mobo(Iris8) and overclocked my AMD Athlon X2 4800(Brisbane) from 2.5 ghz to 3.0. I am a gamer so CPU intensive games have become much more smoother compared to before.

I wanted to upgrade my CPU to either a Phenom X4 9100e,9150e,9350e, or 9450e, all of which are AM2+ and a TDP of 65w(same as my processor). My question is if I were to do the upgrade would it be stable (in windows and in games)and would I see the difference in gaming compared to my x2 4800? I just wanted to ask the expert before I go spending my money to come to find out that none of the above Phenoms work.
I was also looking at the 9500 or 9600 but those have TDP of 95w and I hear that we shouldn't go above 65w on the Iris8. If the Phenoms do not work, what would you suggest, to wait for an update to the bios or to just buy a new mobo?

Good afternoon everyone, thank you all for your work on the bios. I recently updated my bios, and then tried to upgrade my AMD Athlon CPU to a Phenom x4 II 905e processor. I took out the old athlon, and then put the new cpu in. I am still using a 250w power supply and the same heatsink that came with my computer, and am using artic silver 5 thermal grease. When I put in a power cord into the power supply my computer starts immediately, and the power button (usually a light goes on) stays dark. Nothing comes up on monitor, but fans still run. I put back in my old cpu, and it works, but is there anyway I can get my new cpu working?

We finally have some really really exciting news. The battle for these common boards to have stable OC menus, voltage modification, Phenom II support, and a professional retail BIOS has finally come. Our most helpful members banana19 and MrTangoWhiskey have found an ABIT retail BIOS, that successfully flashes to all of the OEM boards mentioned with full control of voltage, OC, and has support for all Phenom I/II proccessors.

So before we get to specifics, a brief timeline on the modding proccess for this motherboard. This has been going on for over a year, and it has taken a lot of support and research to get this board where it should be. We originally started off modifying the HP BIOS for the board. we were able to get overclocking options from it, but the menu was very unstable and items were always floating on the screen. After about 8 months of searching for the solution within the HP BIOS, we realized that poor coding quality in the BIOS was unfixable, and it was time to find the retail fit. I had been doing research on this when a kind member on the forum pointed that this BIOS had all the goods. Its version numbers were similar, it had the same chipset (BIOS donated from ABIT board) and abit has always been known for having overclocking options. With this unlock, we have unlocked what we would see in a retail award bios. The most appealing features are control of AMD Cool and Quiet, Adjustment of CPU FSB, PhenomII support (65-95W recommended) and even setting the voltage and memory timings.

That said, what are you waiting for? Here’s what we need to get started:
1. First, we need to prepare a bootable USB to launch DOS and flash the new BIOS. To do so, download the HP USB disk format tool and install it here


2. Once installed, open the utility and select the USB to format. Below, tick the bubble for creating an MSDOS startup disk. It will then want you to point it to a DOS image folder. You will need to download and unzip this DOS image (do NOT use your own DOS image) here Once it has completed formating your drive, open up the USB in My Computer. Verify that there are only three files on the USB, making sure to unhide protected operating system files in explorer to see them. If you see three DOS files, you are ready for the next phase.

3. Now we will copy over the ABIT BIOS image as well as the flash utility. You will need download AWDFLASH and copy it over to your USB here Once awdflash has been copied over, download the Bios image and save it to your usb from here

4. Once these files have been copied over, you are ready to flash. Reboot windows, and when the BIOS screen comes up hold down Esc and select your USB to boot off of. You will then see a WIN98 splashscreen temporarily flash and you will be in DOS. Once at the prompt, type in the following command:

awdflash M613Z_19.BIN /py /sn /cc / cd /cp /wb /r

Once you type this in you should see on screen the progress of the BIOS flash. When it has finished, it will automatically restart the systen. When it does, tap the delete key to eter the BIOS. There are a couple of this that you will instantly have to do for the best results. Set Smart Fan to Auto in PC Health setup, Enable HPET Support in Advanced BIOS setup, and in the standard setup, MAKE SURE that the floppy is disabled, or it may stall windows for several odd reasons. Out of our four testers, we have all had success with this mod, each on a different board. I was a second tester for the Nettle2 and have a few more words. If you are planning to do this, I recommend backing up windows in case you have to reformat, which wasn’t that bad considering WHS backs up my data. Also, if you hear loud fan noise do not worry. First off, I am the only tester who had tis issue, but if you do have this issue then unplugging the rear system fan on the back of the case will instantly make the box silent, and colling isn’t affected. I have also made a work around for solving the fan speed issue, if you need it (which you shouldn’t) then you can hit the support forum. We are ensuring 24hr. technical support for these boards, and by become a member of Bios Mods (free) you can post on the forums with any questions.

I have been eyeing this post for weeks with a mixture of anticipation and trepidation. It certainly appears that you BIOS Gurus are intimately familiar with The Iris8 and hopefuly can provide me the knowledge I need to proceed confidently.

My initial problem is that the BIOS upgrade offered from HP (5.27) made my system less stable than it was initialy. I assumed that the flash program HP provided would give me an opportunity to back up my factory BIOS before flashing. I watched in horror as it just slapped the new one in without any options to back up (anyone know where the pre-5.27 bios is?).

Now, I enjoy and apreciate the fact that you guy's diligence has apearantly produced a BIOS that will allow me to upgrade or overclock my processor if I wish (and I very well may) but my fundamental reason for consulting and joining this forum is to simple get a more stable bios for the factory configuration of the Compaq Presario SR5333WM. Since installing the HP bios upgrade, I ahve been getting BSOD's the majority of which are memory management issues.

HER ARE MY CONCERNS:

I have found 2 methods of acheiving a better bios. a) Your work with the ABIT BIOS b) many have claimed success using the board manufacturer's BIOS for the GeForce6100SM-M (V1.0/1.0A) found here:

My concern about that method is, although the two board looks identical to mine (i.e. only two ram slots, only two SATA ports) The on-board Network Card and Sound Card are spec'd diferent than the HP Board. However, on HP's own support page they specify The network Card is a Realtek RTL8201N, yet mine is reported as An Nvidia Network Card. It does list the same chipset (NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE/nforce 405) on both boards...MORE IMPORTANTLY DOES ANY OF THIS MATTER AS IT PERTAINS TO THE BIOS UPGRADE? DOES IT MATTER WHAT ON-BOARD HARDWARE IS PRESETN SO LONG AS THE BASE CHIPSET AND MOTHERBOARD LAYOUT IS THE SAME?

MY concern about using the ABIT BIOS is not being able to use system restore, and the general dodginess of using another motherboard manufacturer's BIOS.
(not to impune your good work, but I heard BIOS flashing under ideal conditions is risky) I would be very apreciative if you can adress these two scenarios, with an eye toward stability and perhaps as an afterthought, tell me about the necessity of re-flashing the BootBlock?

@Oberon I would definitely say the ECS BIOS you mentioned also works, but in my opinion the ABIT will provide far more stability, as I have tested it on my Nettle2 based boards several times and it works flawlessly because the 6100 and the 6150 chipset are pretty interchangable in terms of BIOS compatability. Should worst come to worst, its pretty easy to flash back to HP if you are having issues with the ABIT.

does anybody know or can confirm that this bios update adds AM3 support to this board? I've been doing some research online and apparently you can use an AM3 processor with a AM2 socket as long as you update the bios to support the AM3 processor

Donated $10, moved my 4450e to 2645.92 MHz from 2300 MHz in 15 minutes with these instructions, using the bios from the first post.

Had to reinstall my wireless mouse and keyboard, but I had to do that the first time I plugged them in to my computer, they were never really plug-n-play.

Banna was right 230 (2645.92) was the highest I could push it without an error at startup.

Great work, thanks for researching the processor upgrades as well. I am thinking of upgrading to a Athlon II X2 245, now. If that works, I will probably donate another $10.

The latter processor is a AM2+ 65W, so I have the same question as Straight_Path two or three post back, will the bios from the first post support this processor?

I have some problems with an Iris8 board and my posts have been placed in a separate thread Presario SR5640AN. Basically the machine has been reflashed with an HP BIOS which may, or may not, be causing some crashes. I want to get back to the latest Compaq BIOS but can't get AWDFlah to work, assuming I have extracted the correct BIOS fike from the Compaq self executable. My question is whether the Iris8orig.bin refereed to in these threads is the original Compaq BIOS. If so, I will give it a go.
