Gigabyte X48-DQ6 F8i bios mod
#11
IRST = Intel Rapid Storage Technology = RAID.
OROM = Option ROM.
I was wondering if this problem started ONLY after you flashed the BIOS linked above by Dansolo which has updated ROM files in it.
He updated the Intel Raid ROM, JMicron ROM and Realtek PXE ROM.
If so then Flashing back to an earlier BIOS should fix the auto recovery problem by flashing a Known Good BIOS to the main BIOS chip.

No, this problem was before Dansolo update too.
Right know "Auto recovering process" recovered bios to oryginal F8i version.
It's strange because this message "Main bios checksum error" is displayed after successfull mothebard start with info about CPU, memory amount and others thing. There is some Gigabyte mechanism in Dual Bios which reject non orginal bios or modded the same version as before.

As I said I tried to flash firstly to some older bios and then to some new modded F8i but always after update to modded F8i I got message with auto recovering.
I don't know what can I change in other way to successfully upgrade modded F8i?
I always use cbrom to mod my bios (OROM) in others motheboards and it always works.
I'm losing hope that it ever succeeds.

You should turn off the HDD Bios Back up option in the Bios Settings to be sure that the BIOS stored on the HDD isn't getting used as a backup.
You can also Flash an Earlier BIOS Version to the Back up BIOS on your MB by Hitting Alt + F12 at Boot up and follow the prompts.

My all tests have failed.
I checked that ALT+F12 method on this board works only with F8D bios or higher and PS2 keyboard only (not USB).
When bios F8D was transfered from main to backup bios I made two tests:
1.I updated bios to F8i modded by flashspi and I got MAIN CHECKSUM ERROR again
2.I updated bios to F8i modded in Q-Flash and I got MAIN CHECKSUM ERROR too but Q-Flash didn't show that bios checksum is wrong as before

It's very strange because after all two methods and after successful update modded F8i bios motheboard always display not F8i bios but F8D and then MAIN CHECKSUM ERROR ...

Bios F8D don't have option with backup bios on HDD.
I asked Gigabyte support a few years ago how "backup bios od HDD" works when I didn't create special area on HDD or maybe bios is on hided/unusefull area but they cannot explain is it works or not in my configuration ... so I think this method of backup bios doesn't work if I don't have special area on HDD.

Does anyone have any idea which can help?

I have the exact same problem with a GA-X48-DS5
cbrom edit (new RAID ROM), flash with FlashSPI, wrong checksum, auto recovery

Any news?

I think I found the solution. It looks like it's "safe" to remove the backup ROM:
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/show...-DQ6-here)
But are we sure the modified image is correct?
Because if Gigabyte added some kind of protection and cbrom creates damaged image files we should not flash our borads without the dual-bios protection.
I already removed the ROM and my method was a little bit too destructive. I don't think I can make it work again, so I am hesitating to flash the board with a modified image.

Are you sure that the JMicron OROM 1.07.28 will even work with this MB ?
The BIOS includes a jmb59.bin OROM NOT a jmb363.bin OROM.
One is from Gigabyte and the other is from JMicron.

I flashed an x48ds5 with the modded x48dq6.f8i I found here.
It was already updated with RAID and was a more recent base version than my board's F8h (and according to the linked post it should have worked...).

Now my mainboard does not boot. The LEDs light up for a sec but it's an infinite rebooting loop.
I tried CMOS reset, nothing.

I think I will try to solder back the backup flash rom.
Or should I cut down the main flash and solder on the backup?

Oh...
So you guess the Jmicron option rom is wrong?

Will it help if I remove that controller from the board? I don't need those SATA ports and it sounds easier to cut down the Jmicron chip than solder back the backup flash and possibly change the main to the backup because I guess it won't make it to the recovery step like this.

I think you completely Screwed up by cutting a pin on the backup BIOS in the first place.
The guide you linked was for Cross Flashing to a different Models BIOS.
This F8i Beta BIOS probably just does NOT work properly on this MB.

You should solder the Backup BIOS Pin and Hope it will recover the Main BIOS for you.
I would NOT recommend destroying anymore chip pins as you realy have no idea what overal Damage that will do to the MB in general.
And As I sated previously try the Unmodified f8i BIOS and see if it works properly BEFORE trying a Modified Version.
You might just need to use an earlier Version BIOS.
