Q: Is it possible to add CPU support to a BIOS?
#1
Hi there,

though this isn't exactly an unlocking request, this is probably the most matching subforum. The BIOS linked below is from an OEM computer that was sold with a Conroe E6300 CPU (65 nm). I tried to upgrade a Wolfdale E5200 CPU (45 nm), but the system doesn't boot up - it doesn't even do the initial BIOS initialization beep.

As the VID range of the E6300 is 0.85V – 1.5V and the E5200 one 0.85V – 1.3625V, I don't see voltage issues and fear that the BIOS prevents the system start.

Is it possible to add E5200 support to that BIOS? And if - how? Thanks in advance for any opinion!

-MSI MS-7318 (used in German MEDION MD8818 devices)

Hi and welcome to the forum!

Adding CPU Support can be done , but it is quite a risky process. Please understand that flashing any of our modded bioses can break your computer. Its up to you to take the risk and we will not be held resonsible , although we will try our best to offer recovery instructions. Award bioses are generally quite easy to recover , but it depends on how bad the case is.

Will look at this later , download link seems to be extremely slow! - Will try Rapishare once my timer expires!

The speed to the german site is pretty good from here (Bulgaria, that is :p), so here's a mirror:

Thank you! Big Grin

Sadly , im not sure how INTEL microcodes work Sad they are not readily available unless you are an Intel Developer - Sorry!

We can only help with AMD CPU Support at the moment

Sorry

hi In which i would like to point out that section there which is a lie. But the new BIOS version didn't change anything either.I had no problems with running the CPU because I was running it for a year.

Wow , we're a year on from my other post - intel microcodes can be done now! Big Grin

We can try and take support out of another bios and insert it into your bios which will hopefully be enough to add cpu support. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt.

Il see what i can do tomorrow for you Smile
