[REQUEST] HP EliteBook 8560p BIOS Unlock
#1
So I will have to apologize up front, I am not 100% sure if this is Phoenix and might even be UEFI. Respect goes out to anyone that can help. Here is the page link w/ the BIOS version download I am using (sorry I couldnt get the direct link).

Hi. I also have an HP 8560p (integrated graphics version), and while I was updating the BIOS, the laptop suddenly shut down. Afterward, it would not restart, and I have tried the various bios recovery methods, and they did not work.

The bios chip on this laptop is socketed and easily accessible, so I'm able to remove it, read it, and reprogram it. However, while the chip is 8MB, the images from HP are only 3MB, and don't appear suitable to write directly to the chip.

I have no experience with BIOS editing tools, though, so I'm in the position where I need someone to help me come up with a chip image that I can reprogram onto the chip.

Its an INSYDE BIOS , moved to the correct section .
The Original BIOS is the one you should flash ( the .BIN file downloaded from the HP website for your notebook ) .
Also , try using the recovery method ( using win + B keys and usb with the original BIOS file ) .

I have tried to flash the HP 3 MB image top-aligned (starting at offset 5 MB) to the 8 MB bios chip (based on some comparisons of the hex dump, this seemed like what it should have been), as well as bottom-aligned (starting at offset 0).

In all cases, the behavior when I try to turn on the laptop is the same: it powers up for 1/2 second, then shuts off, and then it repeats this about 4 seconds later. When I say "it powers up", I mean I see the power LED come on and the fan turn for a 1/2 second, then they go off. I have a USB stick with an access LED, and it never comes on (when I try bios recovery).

Just for comparison, I tried to power the laptop without any bios chip in it, and in that case it has no reaction at all to pushing the power button.

If someone could just provide the raw 8 MB image from their bios chip, it would really help clear this up. Thanks.

Did you take a backup of the chip just afer it bricked? Before you attempred to "solve" the problem by reprogramming the chip externally?

Yes, of course. I've attached it.

Please swap the number extension with the zip extension to unpack.
(It was necessary to get around the uploader restrictions.)

Sorry for delay, been busy Smile

@Manchild,

Let me first try to recover Spinning laptop, then we will try to mod the bios.

@Spinning, flash again to the chip the backup you took and attached here, seems to have intact the bootloader and the recovery routines as well as all the personally data for your laptop.

Now prepare a pendrive format it FAT32 and unpack the file i attach on the root, let it create the folder structure.

.rar   68SCF_Recovery.rar (Size: 1.75 MB / Downloads: 200)

Now try the recovery procedure wih it, unplug AC and battery pack, plug the pendrive on an usb port, press and hold WIN+B keys, keep pressed and engage AC cord, keep pressed and push power on, keep pressed for a while and wait for it to reflash.
You can try to flash this to the chip and test, i manually tried to recompose the bios dump.

If this one does not work try the recovery procedure (without reflashing your backup) like i said before.
