Sony Vaio VGN-CR2xx: Penryn Support (45-nm)
#1
Hi.

I would like to know if it is possible to upgrade my Sony VAIO CR21Z BIOS, so that my laptop can support the Penryn 45mm 800 FSB processors, like T8100. Also it seems that my BIOS can't see more than 2GB of memory.

The laptop is based on ICH8 chipset so its not a hardware limitation.

The link of the BIOS is http://www.sony.co.uk/support/en/product...56269_3814

The next model, CR31ZR seems identical except that it supports Penryn and 4GB memory.

Thanks for your time.

Just wanted to report that CR21Z works with 2x2GB memory.
Everything works fine.

I just installed a T8100 in my laptop which works, except that the
maximum reported frequency is 2GHz instead of 2.1GHz.
So, probably we need a BIOS update for correctly supporting Penryn.

I flashed a CR31z BIOS and now the processor is recognized correctly.

First of all, thank you very much for this great forum. It's amazing how much information and hard work you do to help all the members of this community.

In this case i request for your support. I have a Sony Vaio VGN-CR21S which contains a chipset GM965. The Current CPU of this Sony Vaio VGN-CR21S is the original one, an Intel Core 2 Duo T7250. It is going to be raplaced to Intel Core 2 Duou T9300.

After searching a lot on the Internet I saw through different sites such as cpu-upgrade, that the chip that incorporates my GM965 Express laptop allows the installation of a more advanced processor of type Penryn which belongs to the Santa Rosa Refresh platform. After evaluating options I decided to buy the Intel Core 2 Duo T9300. The processor will arrive next week. However, since I wanted to be sure that the computer BIOS will support it, I made a backup of my current BIOS. Then with MCExtractor I examined the ROM and got the following list of microcodes:

╚═══╩═══════╩═════════════╩══════════╩════════════╩══════╩════════╩═════════╩══════╝

I was very sad that the last BIOS published by Sony for this computer, the Microcode for the T9300, which is 10676, did not appear. Could anybody add support for Microcode 10676 in the R1131Q0 original BIOS?

Thank you very much!

I've already answered you on win-raid.
All you need is BIOS R2101Q0 version.
