Need bios mod to have ACHI for Vostro 230
#1
Hello, my Vostro 230 doesn't have ACHI. I would be VERY appreciative for a bios mod that allows me the ACHI option. I am a newbie. Here is what I know of the system. AMI bios vO2.63 Bios: Dell brand: version 1.4.0 chipset is Intel G41 Southbridge: Intel: 82801GB (ICH7/R) Processor: Interl Core 2 Duo E7500 Wolfdale Socket 775 LGA

I want to install OCZ Vertex 2 SSD and postings strongly recommend using ACHI setting for best performance.

I will need instruction as to how to apply the mod on my computer as this is new terrirory to me.

THANKS VERY MUCH!

Can anyone help with this bios mod? I know there are some of you geniuses out there! This is so far out of my field of expertise that I am a bit helpless. So thanking you ahead. Angel:

I replaced the useless first menu with the entire SATA Configuration menu.

Hope this works fine for what you want Wink

Thanks so much, Camilo! I was giving up hope that I would get help on this. Very much appreciated.
Any chance you could help me with one more step? How do I use the executable file that I downloaded from you to make the bios change? Do I execute it from DOS, or from Windows? Any step by step instruction would be really appreiciated as I have never done it before. Alternatively, you could point to me any other links that would have the instruction. THANKS AGAIN!

This isn't a biggie, but if more aggressive memory timings could be added as well to that modded bios above versus the default it uses. I have some decent memory that I cant use that the CAS timings because the Dell defaults to a higher setting.

Hello Camilo, I had to travel overseas before I could install your bios mod. I came back recently and got caught up and tried to install it and got the following error message. "The Command line /DellID must be specified and not zero"

Any further help you can provide? I know it's six months since you made the mod! I am most grateful. Any help would me most appreciated! Thank you.
