I have a Sony VGN-SZ670N with the original BIOS (which needed to be upgraded to support Memory, AHCI and VT). I upgraded from the Sony eSupport site to version R0122S5. I tested the new BIOS using SYMCMOS to confirm that it did indeed support AHCI and VT - confirmed. I then tested the BIOS for support of SLIC 2.1 and it did not have the entries which led me to this site.
I backed up my OEM Activation using Advanced Tokens Manager and prepared to do a clean install using the Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1 ISO file from Digital River. I then used the BIOS.MOD file in this thread to flash the R0122S5 that I just upgraded. The flash was successful and after reboot, I had additional menu structures that confirmed that an upgrade had happened (Questions on this below). I then rebooted and reran SLIC Toolkit v3.2 to confirm SLIC 2.1 was now moded. It showed a Cert of _ASUS__V2.1_Cert.xrm-ms and Product ID that matched the ATM backup.
Everything looked great, so I proceeded to do the clean install and restore the OEM licenses with ATM. Once I finished the initial install of the clean copy of W7USP1, I ran the SLIC Toolkit only to find that it supported SLIC 2.0 and not 2.1! It now showed a Cert of: No OEM Certificate found !(Run as Adminstrator). I reran the program as Administrator with the same results (side note: someone need to tell DavidXXW to run spell check! lol).
I then tried manually installing the Cert and Product ID using 1234s282's instructions of slmgr.vbs -ilc c:\********.xrm-ms and slmgr.vbs -ipk *****-*****-*****-*****-*****, but the SLIC Toolkit still indicated SLIC 2.0 and No OEM Certificate found !(Run as Adminstrator) even after reboot.
As a sanity check I re-imaged the original install and low and behold the SLIC Toolkit indicated SLIC 2.1 with the original Certs! Any idea what is happening here and why I'm not able to do a clean install?
(Question From Above): The BIOS.MOD file appears to work for this Phoenix version R0122S5, but I noticed some things that were not in the Menu structure:
<strike>1) There was no option to set the AHCI parameter, only VT was a menu item - Did I miss this under another Menu Option?</strike>
Found under Intel ICH Menu
2) Under Advanced there was no option for "LCD Screen Expansion" Usually set to No, but it is set to Yes making it hard to get the entire Menu on the screen at once.
Thanks in advance for any feedback you can provide. I'm very new to all of this and tried to do a lot of reading before posting. But I have hit a brick wall on my understanding and skill set.
EDIT:
Is it possible that doing a clean install somehow introduces code in the OS that ignores the changes to the SLIC 2.1 BIOS tables and only recognizes the original SLIC 2.0 tables?
Anyone?
