P6X58D Premium 1501 Intel Raid ROM Update
#11
Did you try creating a NEW Raid Array after Flashing the Modified BIOS ?
If not, that could be causing your problem.

I get the black screen right after the initial asus boot logo. So I don't even get to see the OROM; I can't create a new RAID even if I wanted to.

I'll add the v10.6 ORom for you to test in the next day or so.

Intel RAID Rom Updated to 10.6.0.1091 (NO SLIC 2.1 Added)

I tried the 10.6.0.1091 update and am getting the same black screen as deedubb83. The order of screens I see is:
1) ASUS boot logo
2) Intel OROM
3) black screen

The black screen only occurs when I set "Configure SATA As" to RAID instead of IDE/AHCI. When I set it to IDE/AHCI mode, I can boot into Windows, but that sort of defeats the point for me.

I also tried the following:
1) Go to BIOS. Switched "Configure SATA As" to RAID. Reboot.
2) Mash CTRL+I, which lets me get to the Intel OROM 10.6 before it freezes. Deleted existing RAID Volume (made by OROM v8). Created new RAID Volume.
3) Rebooted. Black screen at the same place.

Not sure what to do, as I can't get past the OROM screen while SATA is set to RAID.

I am not sure what deedubb83 did, but from his post my interpretation is that he went into OROM 10.6, created a new RAID, then got to the same black screen. Then he said he reverted back to default ASUS 1501 (OROM 8), and Windows still detects his 3 TB Raid Volume? That sounds pretty fishy to me, as OROM 8 is NOT supposed to support 2.2+ TB at all. If Windows still detects the RAID that was made while he was using OROM 10.6, but he is actually currently using OROM 8, something in my gut tells me a problem will occur at some point (as he's filling up his HDD past 2.2)?

I think you're probably correct.
I can add the v10.1 ORom to that BIOS but I don't think it allows 2+TB Drives to be used.
Let me know if you want to try that.

Yeah I have read that only 10.5+ supports 2+ TB drives, so I'd probably pass on the v10.1.

I actually tried flashing to your OROM 11.1 again with the completely deleted RAID volumes that had been created with OROM 8. This time I was able to see the OROM screen and go into the config. The screen freezes when you try to go past the OROM (both going into the config and exiting, as well as just from a fresh boot without touching the keyboard). I've tested, and it's the same behavior I described in my last post: The freeze screen happens any time you try to go past the OROM (which only shows up if you set "Configure SATA As" to RAID. Setting to AHCI/IDE allows you to boot into windows, since you never see the OROM screen).

Sadly this is a common issue with Older ASUS BIOSes.
They simply don't work with the newer 120KB RAID Roms.

entlassen, did you try it? I think my directions were pretty clear.

I've been using it for sometime with no issues. I'll attach my System Report from Intel Rapid Storage Technology. Note that I've updated the Intel RST lately (today) to 11.2.0.1006. And I have 3 x 3TB drives in a RAID-5.

Name: Volume1
Status: Normal
Type: RAID 5
Size: 5.5 TB
Data stripe size: 64 KB
Write-back cache: Enabled
System volume: Yes
Initialized: Yes
Verification errors found: 0
Blocks with media errors: 0
Physical sector size: 4096 Bytes
Logical sector size: 512 Bytes
Parent array: Array_0001
Number of disks: 3
Array disk: Z1F0EFAJ
Array disk: Z1F0ACZJ
Array disk: Z1F0DF4D

I am hoping to upgrade to 11.5 because my Array_0 (214GB, RAID0, Port 0 & Port 1) is two SSD drives that aren't getting TRIM.

IntelĀ® Rapid Storage Technology
Kit installed: 11.2.0.1006
User interface version: 11.2.0.1006
Language: English (United States)
Intel RAID controller: Intel® Desktop/Workstation/Server Express Chipset SATA RAID Controller
Number of SATA ports: 6
RAID option ROM version: 8.0.0.1038
Driver version: 11.2.0.1006
ISDI version: 11.2.0.1006

I guess is the important part of the system report.

After looking into it more I've heard rumors that Windows 7 doesn't support sending TRIM messages to SCSI devices which the RAID appears as. In light of this information and my system overall performance and not wanting to reinstall Windows if it goes badly I've opted to not upgrade to 11.5 at this time.

In addition there is feedback that 11.5 is unstable memory leaks and all the Intel links I can find to the official 11.5 release have been removed which makes me think the vendor has pulled the product from release. 11.2 seems to be the current version which I'm running for everything except the option rom.

In case you don't read the full thread: please note the Intel Option Rom 10.6.0 (as posted) does not pass back back to the BIOS or boot; it results in a black screen after the intel rom screen (which allows you to configure and see the current health/bootable status for your drives).

Upload Notes: 8086-2822_v11501582.bin is suppose to be the 11.5 Intel RST ROM and P6X58D-PREMIUM-ASUS-1501.ROM is the ASUS released BIOS for the P6X58D. I've included the p6x58d-premium-asus-1501-raid10.6.0.rom for reference, which I think I got from this thread. diskmgmt.png is to disprove his theory that after 2.2TB my drive would become inaccessible. I hope I dont jinx myself by saying all data is currently accessible
