So I was gifted an Asus K60IJ laptop.
Upgraded the Processor to an Intel Core 2 Extreme x9000, installed Windows 10 on an SSD, as well as a 4GB PC2-5300 RAM module.
Unfortunately I have only once been able to get to Windows with 6GB of RAM.
Initially when I received the laptop there was a 2GB stick of PC2-6400 RAM that was not working (meaning I could run Windows but only 2GB from the motherboard would show). I installed a 512 MB chip of PC2-5300, and could consistently run Windows 10 with that. The system is not half bad, but was hoping to be able to run at least 4GB as the work I'm going to do I don't think 2.5 is going to cut it.
Was offered a trial CAD job at a company, but have to bring my own computer as they do not have a licensed version of Inventor. Which is what I am proficient in.
What I'm hoping for is either a later BIOS update, or a way to unlock the current bios: AMI Version 206, or..? As I know it does work with 6GB (it was like somehow I tricked it to POST.) Had the 6400 RAM installed, then unseated it with no battery in, installed the 4 GB chip and BAM a 6 GB Windows 10 pretty nice little system. Not sure if that is the trick and it will work every time, but that's kind of impractical and it would be better to ask some people who would know more and hopefully we could figure a way to make it work all the time.
