Same Bios version | another Motherboard
#1
Hi
I got my self a Acer G3100 Predator with a Amd x6 1045 2,7 GHz.
I am a 3D Artist and gotta do alot of Rendering from time to time. And seeing my CPU being only max. 50°C at max load with standart Cooler (while official max temp is 71°C), really tempts me to overclock it at least 300Hz more. (and considering to buy a new cooler)
But with the AMI motherboard it seems pretty much imposible. No PLL readings from setFSB, cant get any higher value accepted by any kinda input and so on.

I updated my Bios to "p01-b4" via the acer support section.
Convinced that there is no way of modding, since i read a ton of "there is no way" posts I discovered a lot of threads using the same bios firmware modded by the board admin, but using another motherboard.

So there are p01-b2 bios mods with ,quote: "a LOT of unlocked stuff"
although for the Predetor p01-b2 bios mods, I only find posts saying there isn't anything to unlock.

So would it be possible to flash my bios, with other modded ones, that use the same bios firmware, but on another motherboard, to overclock my CPU?

Hope my grammar doesn't brake your brains...

yours sincerly,
a V-Ray fanboy and owner of a under clocked CPU

Short answer - don't. Acer can give same BIOS version names to absolutely different boards. Making people think they are similar and/or compatible. Such thoughts or thoughts about flashing a "higher version" from another board will likely brick it. Compatible BIOSes from different boards are very rare and boards must be almost the same.

But if you tell me the details of your board and/or a link to BIOS file I might have a look at it. SetFSB is not the only software for overclocking and AMIBCP that most use is not the only tool for unlocking.

Try using AMD Overdrive utility since you have a RS880+SB810 chipset. No options for raising the HT frequency (meaning - no overclocking options for CPU in BIOS) but bunch of settings that come along - memory frequency, voltage, timings and so on.

Thx for the Answer Big Grin
I tried AMDOverdrive and many others before, with no luck of course.
Here is my bios file, I hope you can take a look at it Big Grin
