Hi Modders,

I am trying to figure out how to unlock SATA III (Gen3, SATA 6Gbps) on Port 0 for the Asus K53E series laptop. It has the HM65 chipset which according to Intel documentation supports SATA Gen3 on Port 0 and I have confirmed that is where the hard disk drive is connected.

The hard drive I am using is WD Cav Black 500GB (WD5000BEKT) and it scored 7.2 in Windows Rating on a three year old Gateway laptop (NV53). On this "new" laptop, it scores 5.9. I have noted that it is running SATA 3Gbps, according to Intel tools and SiSoft Sandra tool.

I have opened the BIOS file with AMIBCP v4.53 and changed the SATA Port 0 configuration to Gen3, and the Accoustic settings to Performance, etc. but can't figure out how to make them appear in the menu so I can actually see and change them myself. Even after making these changes, flashing with the modified file, and shutting down to power off state and powering on the system, the tools show that it is still running the port at SATA 3Gbps.

Thanks in advance for tips,

Daniel

Try at your own risk, flash with winflash /nodate

All you need to do is have Winflash installed and launch it through Command Prompt, Command Prompt can be found under Start Menu under Accessories.
Now in Command Prompt navigate to where you have Winflash installed, for me I just entered " cd C:\Program Files (x86)\ASUS\WinFlash " with out the "".
Now simply enter "Winflash /nodate" without the "" and then select your desired bios file, ignore the warning about it being an older version and press Flash. All done

You dont have to setting nothing, is automatic to 512mb.

Post results.

Hello there,

Sorry this has to be my 1st post but I know this website has become the 1 stop place for BIOS mods and looking around with the search feature I noticed someone had released and then deleted a fully unlocked BIOS for the K53E.

I Dont really honestly trust myself with editing a bios yet for this machine so I would like to ask if anyone else could put together an unlocked bios (as unlocked as possible at least)

I really want to gain control of a few areas of my laptop such as the ability to disable turbo boost to save heat and battery life.

Here is a link to the latest BIOS for the laptop: http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/K53E...1473233217

A huge thanks in advance if anyone has the spare few mins to assist me!

I modded your BIOS, I enabled all options that I could enable and I attempted to enable the chipset tab as well (you'll have to flash the BIOS to see if it's there or not)

First of all: I am not responsible for any damage you do to your laptop!

Requirements:
AfuWin 3.05.04 > Download
A backup of your original rom
The modified rom > Download

Extracting AfuWin:
  1. Open up "afuwin64.zip"
  2. Extract its contents somewhere

Backup your original rom:
  1. Open a command prompt as admin in the Afuwin64 folder you just extracted
  2. Type "AFUWINx64.exe backup.rom /O" (without quotes)
  3. Save the generated file somewhere safe so you can still access it if you pc won't boot

Installing modified rom:
  1. Make sure your laptop is plugged in
  2. Close all windows
  3. Disable your antivirus
  4. If you have windows 10, make sure no updates are pending (so it doesn't auto restart during the flash)
  5. Copy the modified rom you downloaded to the Afuwin64 folder
  6. Make sure that the modified rom you copied is EXACTLY 2621440 bytes
  7. Go back to the admin command prompt in your Afuwin64 folder
  8. Type "AFUWINx64.exe K53EModded.rom /GAN"
  9. If you get any sort of error like size mismatch, DO NOT flash the bios
  10. Press Y when prompted
  11. Restart your laptop and see if it worked

Please post your results here if everything went well or something went wrong, if you do get a size mismatch error when trying to flash please send me your backup.rom that you generated!

Hey nnvt!

First of all thanks for taking the time to try this!

The results was mixed.

All but Chipset was actually open to me! But... it left the laptop unable to boot from its hard drive and had issues using the internal keyboard and mouse.
I Was able to recover however by hooking up a USB Keyboard and Mouse to my laptop as well as a Windows 10 Install USB Drive I had made. I then used win 10 installers Command system and flashed back the backup and the laptop worked normally again.

Hi, I'm really smart in the k53e BIOS modded, so I can greatly appreciate the VRAM because I found the theme where I was modded to unlock, but there's no way to increase VRAM
