(UEFI) Dell XPS 15z L511z modded BIOS - and HOWTO
17D000h -> 17F000h (added 2000h bytes of empty data)

See if this will clear the truncation warning.

oops, it flashed it without any warning :o

should I reboot the machine now? ^^

like you have any other option Big Grin
open up MEInfoWin and see what it has to say now. If it will correctly identify FW Version as 8.1. then all should be safe and sound.
make note on FW features as well.

mmm

still reporting me 7

will try the version 8 tools

then I will reboot

edit: same stuff with me 8 tools

will reboot now, if you dont have news from me in some time, then my laptop died ^^

well I have some good news and some bad news.

the bad news is that it screwed up the ME

the good news is that the laptop still alive, and I made a backup of the me before ^^

Err .. I guess a transient v7.1 to v8.0 firmware has to be flashed first, only then upgraded to v8.1
I have seen such a firmware on MSI (67 chipet as well btw) .. http://www.msi.com/product/mb/P67A-GD65.html#/?div=BIOS
But I can't seem to extract it ...

Flash your backup back and report how it goes.

backup worked fine, restored the 7 version I had before.

what about trying to flash a modified me7 firmware with OC features? Smile

By the way it was supposed to start flashing at 1000h but started at 2000h instead .. might be the cause of this "bad flash".
I guess the utility was coded to update just the part after the ME header (1000h-2000h) .. which essentially was missing or wasn't adequate for v8 firmware since it was still coded for v7. This is why a full upgrade was needed possibly ..

I've just read that flashing can sometimes require 2 consequent flashes for a proper upgrade.
Also instead of restarting the laptop just shut it down. Also try flashing the image that proposed the truncation message and see what it does.

If this still ends up messing up the ME we have @CodeRush's FTK
http://www.mediafire.com/?gr8515lx83s91wd
merefl.bat is meant for upgrading the ME region .. but his tool is coded for Asus as well.
as bios.bin (which you have to put in the folder alongside all the utilities) take the ME-infused dump I've uploaded earlier.

mmm, what file do I have to put as bios.bin?

ME image? or entire bios image to extract it from there?

I think I am falling as sleep lol, has been awake the whole night :o

here is a transient 8.0.3.1427 from a Sony Vaio laptop:
http://www.mediafire.com/?qr2g4brno469lrr

as bios.bin you take the v8-infused-backup.rom I have posted.

@kasar - might be a good idea to try out the FITC-based hack I prescribed a couple of pages back to enable overclocking to see if this works?
