edit:oops i made a mistake or two... this is a Phoenix BIOS and i should probably have posted this in 'Option ROM Modding request' .. sry!
Hello, with great interest i found and read this topic.
Some explanation first. I want to upgrade my HP 9630eb with a SSD, to replace the traditional 5400RPM drive. Whilst i was investigating the insertion bays, i found that this laptop has 2 bays to insert hard drives.
I then thought that it could be possible to RAID these drives,so that performance could be pumped up even higher!
However the BIOS lacks options for that. But i do have a feeling that the controller can do it though,so i would like to mod/request mod the BIOS and insert or enable a RAID module.
We're talking about a ICH8 chipset as far as i know.
I got the latest BIOS package version F5A http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp48001-48500/sp48024.exe
Which contains 30CCF5A.wph
Using 'Phoenix Bios Editor Pro' i found a piece in the strings0.rom:
'ICH Sata PATA Control Sub Menu' with user modes 0 to 6.
Could i be enabled? How? And is it enough to create a RAID-0 array?
Now i'm wondering, can this be done at all?
I'll be glad to receive some help.
